Cruiz shook his head, “I know. But she's it for me. It doesn’t make sense to me either, but she is mine.”
Fin rolled his eyes, “Whatever you say.”
Cruiz pointed a finger at him, “Don’t mock it. One day it’s going to hit you hard and you won’t know how you ever lived without her. I don’t know what I will do if she doesn’t come back.”
He rubbed his chest again and Fin took him by the elbow, “Come on, you need to sleep. It’s been a shitty day. I will check on you through the night.”
Cruiz let his brother lead him away from the front door and to his room.
He was covered in salt water, and it was making his skin itch, so he took a quick shower and fell on his bed, nude.
He pulled the covers over him and shut his eyes, missing Soraya and sending up a prayer to the Greek Gods that she would return.
Chapter Three
Soraya
After leaving Cruiz, her chest hurt. She knew he was a Protector and that was why he was her mate.
She wouldn’t know fully for certain that he was hers, until she used her magic on him, and it was a terrifying thought.
She longed to speak to him about all of it, but most humans weren’t open to the possibility of the supernatural.
She got to the edge of the water, taking off the white shirt Cruiz had put on her, hating that she had to leave it behind.
Knowing that most people, especially women didn’t walk around half naked. So, she would grab it in the morning.
She left it in between two rocks and made certain it was hidden well. She walked into the waves that had calmed from the storm’s passing.
As she got deeper, she gave herself over to her magic and her legs became her tail and she swam deeper until she found where she left the small calf.
It was where she'd left it and she curled up beside it, letting it snuggle beside her as the night passed.
In the morning though it was loudly screeching, demanding food.
She let out a soft sigh, “I found you a place that can help take care of you. Come.”
It followed along beside her and when she made it to the beach, she once again gave herself over to the magic.
She was grateful that she had put Cruiz’s shirt somewhere safe.
She put it over her head, and walked along the shore slowly, with the baby following beside her in the waves.
When she made it to Cruiz’s home, she clicked at the baby to make it stay put and knocked on the door.
When it opened Fin was there with long pants on his legs and nothing on his chest.
His black hair stood on end and he was rubbing the sleep from his eyes, and they widened when he saw her.
“Soraya? What are you doing here?”
She smiled, “I told you I would return. I brought the calf.”
Fin stood to his full height and followed her, “How did you find it?”
“It found me.”
“What? No. It doesn’t matter right now. You make no sense, but if we can help the baby, I don’t care.”
