The small calf got excited when it saw her and she smiled at it, talking to it softly that it was going to be safe and fed. And letting it rub itself on her fingers.

When she looked up Fin was watching her, his mouth dropped open in shock.

“Let’s bring it up to the house. I can take a better look at it there and see what needs to be done.”

She nodded, “She's hungry is all. She hasn’t eaten much and I didn’t have a way to feed her the milk she needs.”

Fin looked at her, “How do you know that? You know what? Never mind, let’s feed her and then you can answer my questions.”

Fin picked up the small baby in his arms and hurried to the house, where he put it in a large tank.

He got busy making something and when he came out he had a long circular tube thing that was clear and had white liquid inside it.

Fin gave the thing to the baby and Soraya watched from the side as the baby drank and drank.

When it seemed to be full, it swam around in circles and she could sense it was happy and finally full.

Fin looked at it as it swam, “I haven’t seen a dolphin calf that has been separated from its mother before. They normally share a tight bond and will stay together for years.”

Soraya nodded, “I know. I have no idea why she was left behind, and I searched for the mother for a while, but the pod was nowhere to be found. I was getting desperate in my search to save her.”

“I am glad you found us. That’s the best thing for her. Hopefully she won’t need to stay here for long. And she can be returned to the wild.”

Soraya nodded, “I hope for that as well.”

Fin turned and looked at her, “I want you to answer some of my questions now.”

She froze, “I fear that I won’t be able to give you the answers you seek.”

Fin crossed his arms over his chest, “I don’t understand any of this. You make no sense to me and I want to know how you found this calf, found my brother and everything.”

She pursed her lips, “I want to tell you, but I cannot. I apologize.”

Fin growled and took a step toward her, and she raised her eyebrow, “I wish there was a way to tell you all, but I’m afraid it’s impossible.”

“Fin, leave her be. If she can’t answer then she can’t. Deal with it.” Cruiz’s voice was heard behind them and she turned, seeing him in much the same kind of coverings as Fin wore.

When Fin turned his back on them, she spotted his trident birthmark on his back and she bit her lip.

Two Protectors. Only one was meant for her, but Fin was meant for some other mermaid that was out there.

She wanted nothing more than to tell them what she was, but she was scared.

Cruiz walked to where they were and knelt down by the tank the calf was in.

The baby was swimming in lazy circles and Soraya wanted to smile as it brushed against Cruiz’s fingertips.

“I want to explain who I am to you, but I only have so much time and cannot tell you yet.”

Cruiz looked up at her, “Soraya, little gem, I don’t care where you came from or any of it. I just want you to be safe here.”

Soraya went still when he called her his little gem.

He stood and walked to her, “Do you have any other clothes?”

She looked down at the not so white shirt she was wearing.

“Clothes?”
