Cruiz gave her another strange look and then went to make the baby a bottle of milk.

He let her feed the small calf, that Cruiz named Page, because she was easy to read, like a book.

It made Soraya smile that he cared enough to name her and Cruiz went to check on a few of the other animals they had.

She followed along and spoke with each creature.

They all told her how kind Cruiz and Fin were, that they loved that they had been found by the brothers and knew that they were in good hands.

Some of the creatures knew that they couldn’t go back to where they had been before, and yet they were happy that they were in a safe place.

Soraya spent the rest of the day helping Cruiz with the feeding and cleaning out the tanks, and when they finished with their tasks, Cruiz pulled her into the house and to the kitchen.

He had called it that when they were preparing food for the animals there and she loved the feel of it.

“What are you hungry for, little gem? I can hear your stomach growling from here.”

She bit her lip, “I like fish. I usually eat it raw.”

He raised his eyebrow, “Alright. So sushi it is.”

He worked around the kitchen for a bit while she wandered through the house, looking at the pictures on the walls and studying everything she saw.

Sometimes she would ask Cruiz what things were, and he would always tell her, though she could tell it confused him.

She needed to tell him her secret soon, but knew it was too early.

She didn’t want to scare him away. Not now.

Chapter Four

Cruiz

After spending the entire day with Soraya, he knew without a doubt she was the woman meant for him.

He thought so from the beginning, never having felt so comfortable around a woman until her.

She was different to be sure, not knowing how some things worked, what certain things were called and she seemed to be able to know anything and everything about each of the animals that lived at his rehab center.

It was as if she was really in tune with all of them, especially the small calf that seemed to speak to his little gem.

It was quite strange, but he could have sworn he had heard her clicking to it.

He still didn’t understand where she'd come from, and why he'd never seen this girl in his life.

He knew most of the locals around his small town, but none had ever looked like her.

Not with her pink hair, and her slim body that seemed to be made from the palest cream.

When they went out to buy her clothes, people gave her the weirdest looks.

She didn’t pay anyone any mind and he loved that about her.

He finished making some sushi for her, glad that he also loved it and set a plate in front of her.

She looked up at him, “What is this?”

“Sushi. It’s really good.”
