She shook her head, “Now that you and I are mated, you have the magic I have. You can turn your legs into a tail at will, just as I do. It’s how merpeople are able to mate and to make love. We can switch back and forth with a thought after the mating is fully complete.”

He sat up, and pulled her from the bed and to one of the biggest pools they had.

It was dark out, the only light was from the moon and the lights in the pool.

No one was around and he led her to the water.

“Show me. Please.”

She dove into the water and with a thought, her legs melded into her tail and he gaped in awe at her.

“You are stunning. Absolutely beautiful.”

She smiled at him, “Thank you. Do you wish to try?”

He jumped in beside her, and she said, “All you have to do is imagine your legs becoming a tail and the magic will do the rest.”

He did so and with a gasp, his legs turned into a sleek dark blue tail.

He looked down at it in shock. “I know you told me it could happen, but I, well, I didn’t think it was real.”

She laughed, “You silly man. Of course. What do you think happens when you mate with a mermaid? You stay human the whole time?”

He shook his head, “I guess I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even know mermaids were actually real until today.”

She kissed him, “You have heard legends and tales of mermaids before have you not?”

He nodded, “All the people who live on the sea talk of seeing women in the water, ones with sleek tails and colorful hair, but I didn’t believe them to be true. Until you came along and made me question all my beliefs. I love it. Knowing that there is more out there that meets the eye. That magic isn’t just in some fairytale. That it’s real and alive.”

She cupped his cheek, “So you are not angry that you are mated to me? And have this ability now?”

He shook his head, “Absolutely not. I love it. Love that I found you, and that I know who I am. That all my questions I had were finally answered. It was a great mystery to me, and now? It’s real. It’s something that I can grab onto and never question again.”

She kissed him, and went under the water, getting deep.

He followed, and she could tell he was holding his breath.

She laughed and went to him, blowing the breath into his lungs and making him gasp.

“It was you that saved me. How did I not see it?”

His eyes widened when he spoke under the water and she laughed, “Of course I saved you. I was so drawn to you that even in the chaos of the storm, I found you.”

He pulled her into his arms, “Thank you for saving me.”

“You are welcome Cruiz.”

They swam for a while and then they surfaced and just as they were going to get out, they heard a shocked, “What the fuck?”

Cruiz looked up at Fin, who was standing on the side of the pool, holding a bottle in his hands.

It dropped the ground, and Soraya watched him carefully, and Fin dropped to one knee, “You’re a mermaid?”

She nodded and Fin let out a sound of excitement. “I knew it. I had a feeling you were, but didn’t know for sure. Iknewthey were real.”

Cruiz changed back to his legs and climbed from the pool, where Fin averted his eyes, “Dude, you are naked as a jaybird right now.”

Cruiz laughed and grabbed a towel that was sitting on a table near the door.
