Cruiz
Cruiz Conway was born in a small town of Symi Town, Symi in Greece, and he loved it. Living right on the Mediterranean was something most envied.
He was drawn to the sea and swam every single day, rain or shine.
His mother, Irini gave up trying to get him away from the water and his dad, Adrien, taught him to swim so he was always safe.
His parents had met and fell in love in England where Adrien was from.
They decided to stay with Irini’s family in Greece and because of that, they spoke both Greek and English.
When he was three, his little brother Fin was born and Cruiz loved him.
He taught Fin everything he knew and Fin loved the sea as much as Cruiz did.
They often snuck away to swim in the ocean and knew that though they were much too young, it didn’t matter. They just wanted to be in the water.
As they grew0, Cruiz would do his best to help any and all injured animals that he could find. It was strange to him, but often it seemed as if the animals were drawn to him and he would help them, big or small.
He and Fin always took the time to clean up the beach, so no creature got hurt from the debris that other humans left behind, and once found a small nest of sea turtle eggs and did his best to keep it protected until they hatched.
When the eggs hatched, he and Fin made sure the small turtles made it safely to the water and when the last small baby swam away, Cruiz just knew it was his calling and what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
He worked hard at school to become a marine vet.
He loved helping the fish, dolphins, whales and other animals that swam in the waters of the ocean.
It was something that calmed his nature and Fin followed in his footsteps.
Together they found an abandoned house that sat right on the edge of the water.
It had a few pools attached to it that would be perfect to rehab animals in.
The inside needed a lot of work, but he, Fin and their parents were up to the task.
They worked hard to knock out walls, fix the wiring, painting and laying new flooring.
He and Fin each had a room for themselves, a small kitchen, dining room and a living room.
The rest of the house was used as examination rooms, places for tanks for animals too small to fit in the pools outside, and it was wonderful.
He and Fin had more work than they thought they would.
They always got calls from the locals about animals that needed their attention and he and Fin had rehabbed a few dolphins and turtles that had been hurt.
That was what brought him out to the ocean this day. A fisherman told him about a small pod of dolphins that seemed to be in distress, as if one was hurt.
He didn’t like the thought of that and had taken the boat out, all the while knowing there was a massive storm warning that would hit soon, but going anyway.
He had to help the dolphins no matter the cost. Except the damned storm hit sooner than he had anticipated.
And before he knew it, he was trying his best to keep the boat floating through the massive waves, and trying to keep all the equipment tied down as well. It was a feat too much for him to handle and he didn’t see the huge wall of a wave behind him, until it was too late.
He had seconds to dive into the water, but right after he did so, he was hit hard on the head with some of the debris from the wreckage of the boat.
He tried desperately to open his eyes, but was too out of it, and his head lolled as he was brought through the water.
When he was dragged on the shore he coughed and gagged, getting the water out of his lungs.
