Keelyn

Driving away from the club in the car that Kitty had bought was a joke.

It barely ran on good days and she was grateful it started at all.

When she had run out of the club, she had bolted to the stupid thing and the key almost got stuck in the lock.

She wanted to curse. And get the fuck out of here.

She knew he said she was the only one, but she didn’t believe it for a heartbeat.

He was sin on a stick. And women would be lined up around the block to be with him.

She hated it. Hated the envy that coursed through her veins.

As soon as she got free from the parking lot, she drove straight to the motel and then hurried inside their room.

She had grabbed her clothes but hadn’t changed them and she felt ridiculous in the outfit outside the club.

She hoped and prayed that no one noticed her. She didn’t need that in her life right now.

No one did, and she shut the door, hard. Kitty was on the bed, reading a smutty romance novel that they had gotten from the library a few days ago.

They both loved the stories and the idea that there was a perfect man out there to love them.

Keelyn was sure it had been Kieran. But now? She didn’t want to see the pompous asshole again.

But she needed the money. She didn’t want to keep living in the shitty motel with her little sister.

They woke multiple times in the night from bites and screams or gunshots.

It was terrifying and she was tired of not feeling safe.

She never had when they were young either, and for those few precious minutes, she had felt safe in Kieran’s arms.

But it was a fairytale that she couldn’t afford to read.

Kitty cleared her throat, “Keke? What are you doing? That’s um. That’s some outfit. Are you sure I shouldn’t work there too?”

Keelyn walked over to her sister and dropped on the bed next to her, “I don’t know. I’m still so new and I didn’t have a good experience tonight. Not with the owner or the customers. I don’t want you to get hurt or have someone touch you Kit. It would hurt me if I knew I was the reason you got hurt.”

Kitty sighed, rolling her eyes, “I can take care of myself Keke. You don’t have to mother me.”

Keelyn knew Kitty was right, but since she was older, she always felt responsible for Kitty.

Their parents were horrible and strict and they were never good enough for either of them. Especially not their father.

And Keelyn took every punishment that he gave them to save Kitty from it.

She knew that Kitty would need a job too and that if they both worked at the club it would be easier on them financially, but she didn’t want to put Kitty in Kieran’s way.

What if he made Kitty touch him? Kiss him? She had to hold back the gag that built in her throat at the thought and shook her head.

“Let me work there for a bit. Give me a few days and then I will be in good and I can help you get a job. For now, just chill in the room and read the books we got. I will even let you take the car. Okay? Just drop me off at the club and it’s all yours.”

Kitty nodded after a few seconds, “Okay. A few more days. That’s it though. I don’t want to keep sleeping here. It’s horrible.”
