He would have noticed her. That much was true.

As they walked to the locker room, he searched the hallways for the cheerleaders and saw a few of them loitering around.

He walked up to them, and one batted her eyelashes, “Hey there handsome. Can we help you?”

He fought to roll his eyes, “Yeah. You can tell me who the last cheerleader was. Long, brown curly hair, blue eyes?”

The girls sighed, and the one batting her eyelashes stopped, “That’s Eva. She is new to the team. And she already gets a hot guy? Really? That’s not fair.”

The other girls sympathized with her and he waved them off, “Where is she?”

The one girl raised her eyebrow, “In the locker room with the other girls. Duh. She is changing to leave.”

“Where does she park?”

The girl folded her arms over her chest, “I’m not going to tell you that. You could be a creep, no matter how hot you are. She is new and sweet and shy. Nope.”

Soren sighed and ran a hand through his black hair, “I am not going to hurt her or do anything. I am not a creeper. In fact, I work for the lawyer that helps with the Alphas. And my little sister is dating Blake Paxton. I saw Eva on the field and I knew she was it for me.”

One of the girls let out an “Aww!” sound, but the one he was talking to, just raised her eyebrow again, “You think you are the first guy who has said that line? Think again. Guys all over have said the same thing. And no matter how cute you are, I’m not going to lead that cute girl to the slaughter just because you said that. Nope.”

One of the girls looked him over, “I think he isn’t like the other guys though April.”

April let out a sigh, “Is your sister really dating Blake? He doesn’t date. Ever. Trust me, several of us tried.”

He nodded, “He really is. Her name is Shelley.”

“I have heard that name from Sasha.” One of the other girls said and April looked over at her and then dropped her arms, “If you hurt her, we will know. And we will come after you.”

He grinned, “I would never hurt her. She is mine. And way too important to be hurt. I have waited my entire life to find her.”

The girls all sighed, and April nodded, “I will go get her. That way it’s in public. If she wants to see you, that’s up to her. But I will go. Wait here.”

He nodded and walked over to the opposite wall and leaned against it, his hands in his pockets, his head against the cool brick wall.

He could only hope that she would come out and talk to him. That he hadn’t scared her away.

When April came out, he stood up straight and she walked over to him, “Eva is just finishing changing. She will be out in a second.”

Soren felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest.

A few minutes later, the door opened to the locker room and Eva walked out.

She was wearing some sort of soft, black pants and a white t-shirt that had the team's logo on it.

Her hair was still in place, but the bow was gone.

Up close, she was even more beautiful and Soren felt his breath catch.

She bit her lip and looked up at him as she walked over.

She was tiny. Like an entire foot or more shorter than he was.

And he yearned to pull her against his chest and keep her safe from the world.

“Um, April said you wanted to talk to me?”

Her cheeks went pink and she looked away, like she was embarrassed.
