Eva felt her cheeks go warm as she nodded again. “I have been dancing since I was four. I love it, and know all sorts of different dancing techniques. It has been my whole life.”
The woman’s grin got bigger if that was even possible, “Great. Great. Now, my next question is, have you ever been to an Oregon Alphas football game? Or seen one?”
She shook her head, “I’m sorry. No. I have been too busy with dancing and I just finished high school a few months ago.”
The woman waved that off, “That’s fine. I have a proposition for you.”
Eva raised her eyebrows, and the woman went on, “We want to hire you to come be a cheerleader for the Alphas team.”
Eva’s jaw dropped open, “Don’t I have to try out or something?”
The woman nodded, “Normally yes, and normally I wouldn’t come and talk to you like this, but we saw you with the kids and we know you will be perfect for the team. If you want to come down and meet with the other girls and see if it’s something you want to do, that’s fine. We are more than happy to have you do that. We just want you for the team.”
Eva’s eyes were wide, “I have a job here.”
The woman waved her off again, “It’s not every day and mostly at nights. We do travel with the team, but we give you full notice. This is a huge opportunity and we pay very well.”
Eva bit her lip, “I can come and see if I would like it?”
The woman nodded again, “Sure can. Does tomorrow work? The girls are practicing and we would love to have you see how we work.”
Eva nodded, “Okay. Sure. I will check with my boss and then let you know?”
The woman smiled, “Absolutely. I’m Jennifer Mills. I’m the head coach of the cheerleaders. This is Coach Caz. He is the head coach of the Alphas football players.”
Eva shook both their hands and when they left, Jennifer handed her a card, “Call me as soon as you know.”
Eva nodded and they left.
Brooke came in, along with Amy, the owner of the studio.
“So? What happened?”
Eva told them everything and Amy grinned, “You have to do it. You have worked so hard on dance your entire life. This is a huge opportunity.”
Eva bit her lip and looked at Brooke, who nodded, “I agree with Amy. You have worked so hard for this and you deserve it. There isn’t anyone who deserves it more than you.”
Eva hugged them and then called Jennifer, letting her know she wanted to come down to the stadium.
Jennifer laughed, and they set up a time to have her come down.
----
Two days later, Eva drove to the stadium.
She was nervous, but excited and Brooke and Amy had coached her the entire time.
She looked down at the instructions that Jennifer had given to her, she got out of her car and walked to the door where the cheerleaders normally went in.
Jennifer was waiting inside the door and she looked up, “You are early. I like that.”
Eva smiled, “I don’t like being late for things.”
Jennifer smiled, “Good. Come with me.”
She led her down a few tunnels and to a locker room, where a bunch of women were inside, stretching and talking.
Jennifer let out a sharp whistle, “This is Eva Hall. She is here to try out. I invited her, so be aware.”
