Jet laughed and Scout stood, walking to where Aria was drinking some water. Aria grinned up at him and Scout lifted her in his arms and danced with her to the floor. He was good at dancing, with his background of all different fighting skills. Jet once made fun of Scout for how fluidly he could move, but Scout just brushed him off.
He worked his ass off to get a black belt in four different fighting styles and Jet knew better than to mess with Scout. He was a nice guy but could take anyone down in seconds. He wasn’t someone to play games. And as Jet watched Scout with Aria, he noticed Farren slip out of the room and he followed her. Staying back enough to see that she was just going to the bathroom, but he wanted her protected.
No matter what.
As he leaned back against the wall, he had one leg braced behind him and shut his eyes. He couldn’t believe that he had found her. The girl that was meant to be his. He hated that he had to be patient with her. Even though it was the right thing to do. He wouldn’t fight her on this. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt his chances of being with her. That was the last thing he wanted to do. She was everything and he would do all he could to show her.
Chapter Four
~ Farren ~
After Jet kissed her hand and turned to leave, she watched in shock as he did so, and Harrison was at her side in seconds.
“What did he say to you? Dad is going to freak the fuck out. Men haven’t been allowed around you.”
Farren whirled on him, “I am a grown ass woman Harrison. If I want to date, I will. I’m not in high school anymore and if a guy like Jet wants to date me, then I will let him. Rickie has told me nothing but good things about him. And if he works with Gunner and Raiden’s company then he isn’t a bad man. Rickie told me none of the guy’s date. Ever. So, there is that as well. I am going to decide my future from now on. Not you. Not dad. I let you choose when I was in high school, but not anymore. I’m done with that shit.”
Harrison’s eyes went wide, “You have never sworn at me before.”
Farren huffed, “You need it every once in a while. You are such a butt.”
Harrison started laughing and then sobered, “You are right. You are a grown woman and can decide your own future. I just want to protect you from the bad out there. Not all men are good. Not like Jet.”
Farren looked toward where Jet walked away. “He let me know I was his, but he is letting me choose for myself if I want that. I would say he is a good man.”
Harrison’s shoulders deflated a bit, “He is. Fine. I will support you. In whatever. And for what it’s worth, I’m sorry we were so overbearing. I had good reasons though. You didn’t hear what I did in those locker rooms. What Stetson did. What Hudson did. It was vulgar and rude, and we didn’t want to subject our sister to that. We got into a lot of fights over you.”
Farren sighed, “I appreciate that. But you don’t have to anymore. Okay?”
“Okay. Deal.”
He held his arm out to her and they walked into the reception and Farren looked around to see Jet sitting with another man in the corner. He was talking quietly with him and then he looked around the room and saw her and the corners of his lips twitched.
She looked away and sat down by Harrison and they ate and talked. When it was time for dancing, she watched as an older man brought his daughter to the dance floor. She had to use crutches to walk, and she was wearing a beautiful light pink dress. Her hair was curled, and she had a bow on the top of her head.
Farren watched in fascination as the dad picked his daughter up and danced with her in his arms. She laughed and kissed her dad on the cheek and Farren couldn’t take her eyes off the little girl. She was adorable and when the dance ended, she was shocked when Jet walked up to the man holding the little girl. The dad let her stand on her feet and Jet held one of her hands while they danced to a fast dance.
She was laughing and having the time of her life. Jet’s sole focus was on the little girl and when the fast song ended and a slow one came on, the dad lifted the girl into Jet’s good arm and took her crutches. Jet danced with her while she wrapped her arms around his neck and put her head on his shoulder. Farren couldn’t tear her eyes away if she wanted to. He was so sweet with that little girl, and she could see them talk as they danced.
She knew then and there that he was the man for her. For him to hold a little girl so close like that, one with special needs no less made her heart yearn for him. When the song ended, the girl kissed Jet on the cheek and Jet smiled. The dad walked over and Farren could see the resemblance between them. Jet looked just like him, down to the way his hair sat on his head. They both had a slight cowlick at the front right side of their hair and that part of their hair stood up straight.
Farren bit her lip when the man hugged Jet carefully and the girl walked back over to the table, getting a drink of water. Jet was still standing on the dance floor and turned and walked away.
She stood, “I need to use the bathroom.”
Harrison nodded and she walked away. Her heart was beating a million miles a minute. Seeing Jet with that girl made her want all the things with him. But she didn’t know him. And he reminded her of her brothers. Overbearing and possessive. But did she hate it? Or was she upset that he just told her they would be together and there was no other discussion?
She didn’t know. She just didn’t like having her future dictated to her. But would it really be so bad? He was kind. Gentle. Patient. He was a good man to his core. According to Rickie. He was smart and had a good job and he was stable in his life. Rickie told her that she had never once seen any of Steele’s crew date and she thought it was insane. They were all good-looking men. Like ridiculously good looking.
Tall, muscular. Fit. Sexy. That all described Jet.
And she felt something for him the first second she saw him. Which was more than she had ever done with anyone else. Yes, there were sexy men all over. But she never gave them much attention. And yet here she was, unable to tear her eyes away from Jet and how sweet he was with that little girl. She pushed her way into the bathroom and held back a sigh with all her internal thoughts. She used the bathroom and washed her hands and when she looked up in the mirror, she picked up her purse and put more red lipstick on. And then she nodded at her reflection and walked out of the door.
Jet was leaning against the wall, his foot propped up behind him, and his eyes shut. But when she walked out, he opened his eyes and looked right at her.
She put her hands on her hips, “Are you following me?”
He nodded, “I was just making sure you are safe. I don’t want to have anything happen to you when I could have kept you safe.”
