She looked at him, “Thank you. It’s my favorite thing. The kids in my class are the sweetest.”
He moved his finger out from under her chin and then laced their fingers together.
She touched his sling, “What happened to you?”
He told her the story of how he got shot and she ran a hand over his arm.
“I’m glad you are okay. I hate that you got hurt.”
He smiled, “It wasn’t the most fun ever, but I’m just glad the other guys didn’t get more hurt.”
She turned to him, “You are something else.”
He studied her face, “Why?”
“Because you would rather get hurt than to see the other men in your crew get hurt. It’s sweet.”
He looked a little confused and she smiled, “I just don’t like that you got hurt.”
His smile slowly covered his face, and he leaned in toward her, “I promise baby, I’m okay now. I got the stitches out a few weeks ago and have to take it easy, but I’m okay.”
She bit her lip and nodded, “Good. Don’t do it again.”
He smiled, “Can do baby.”
She held his hand again and they walked back toward the reception.
“Do you want to meet my family?”
She bit her lip and nodded, “I really do.”
He led her into the room and Aria was over to them in a few steps, and she was throwing her arms around Jet’s middle.
“Jet! Scout and I danced to four songs! You missed it.”
Jet leaned down to her, “I’m sorry squirt. I was walking around with Farren.”
Aria looked over at her and Farren knelt down, “Hi Aria. I’m Farren.”
Aria grinned and wrapped her arms around Farren’s neck. Farren hugged her back and she looked up at Jet.
He was grinning and when Aria pulled back, she said, “Will you dance with us?”
Farren nodded, and Jet held his hand out to her and lifted her to her feet. She held Aria’s other hand and they walked to the dance floor together. Farren and Jet danced with Aria for at least three fast songs, and when a slow one came on, Jet’s handsome friend came over and picked Aria up. Jet pulled her into his arm and she snuggled up against his chest.
“This has been the best night of my life.”
Jet kissed her forehead and Farren sighed. “This is the best night of my life too.”
They danced for the rest of the song and Farren looked up when Jet stopped moving. Harrison was there and he had a smile on his face. He was talking to Aria and Farren watched as Aria’s smile widened and Harrison reached out to take Aria from Scout’s arms. Farren laughed as Aria made Harrison dance with her and Jet twirled her around and dipped her a bit.
She laughed and looked up into his warm brown eyes. She had no idea that a man could capture her heart so quickly. But he absolutely had. He leaned in and kissed her softly and she kissed him back.

After kissing Farren, the rest of the night was a blur. When it was time to leave, he didn’t want to.
