He picked up the phone and called her.
She answered on the first ring, “Jet! Hi!”
“Hi baby. I just wanted to talk to you. Help me get through the rest of the day before I see you.”
“You are the sweetest. I was missing your voice too.”
He chuckled, “Then it’s lucky I called. What are you doing today?”
She let out a soft breath, “Just watching some Christmas movies and am snuggled up on the couch with popcorn.”
He sat up, “Oh yeah? Is that couch lonely?”
“So lonely. Harrison is at work. And I am all by myself at the house.”
He let out a soft growl. “I wish I was there with you baby.”
“I wish you were here too. You could snuggle with me under my big blankets.”
He stood, uncaring that he had work and things left on his desk. He wasn’t even supposed to be at work today anyway. “I’m coming over.”
“Really? I would actually love that.”
He smiled, “I would too. It’s still technically my day off. And no one would care if I left a little early.”
He could hear the smile in her voice, “Well, then please come join me. I warn you though, I’m in my pajamas and we are watching my favorite Christmas movies ever.”
He grinned, “Even more reason for me to come.”
She told him her address and he hung up the phone so he could leave the office. He shut his computer down and then walked out, waving goodbye to Scout and Crew.
Scout called after him, “Where are you going?”
Jet looked back, “My girl is all alone in her house, watching movies and I invited myself to join her. I wasn’t even supposed to work yet, so I’m taking the rest of the day off. But I will see you tomorrow.”
Scout grinned, “Good luck. Have fun.”
Crew gave him a two fingered wave and Jet walked out of the office, waving to Norma and then getting in his truck. It wasn’t easy to drive with one of his arms not fully usable, but he managed, and he made it to Farren’s house in record time. When he walked up her sidewalk and knocked on the door, she opened it with a smile.
“You made it!”
He grinned, “I sure did baby. It’s freezing out here. Come on.”
He looked down at her and she had on a pair of fuzzy socks, red and white flannel pajama bottoms and a red sweatshirt that said, “Dear Santa, I can explain.”
He put his hand on her hip and rubbed the soft material under his thumb.
“Explain what? You are the least naughty person I know.”
She laughed, “I know. It’s Harrison’s. He just left it in his closet for three years. So I took it. And he can’t have it back.”
Jet laughed along with her and then dipped his head, kissing her soft lips.
“Let’s watch these movies. Otherwise, I’m going to do something to you that I didn’t come here for.”
She blinked up at him and he shook his head, “Don’t look at me like that baby.”
She smiled and then grabbed his good hand and walked with him to the living room. She had two cups of hot cocoa on the table and a bowl of popcorn. There was a movie waiting to be started and she pulled him down on the couch with her and got herself situated on his good side. She snuggled right up against his chest and fixed the blanket, so it covered both of them.
