Farren rolled her eyes, “It’s most likely just random timing. He is probably in town visiting his family for the holidays like you said and maybe he wanted to see how you are? Maybe he was too busy to see you then and wants to see you now? Who knows? And Harrison, really? How could he know I’m dating someone? If he is in town visiting, he doesn’t live here. He wouldn’t know. I mean, Jet and I haven’t even gone on an official date. Our first date was here. We haven’t been anywhere to show anyone that we are dating. So how would he know? You know?”

Harrison tried to speak, but she held up her hand to stop him, “And besides, it doesn’t concern him anyway. He doesn’t own me. I turned him down once. I will do it again if he asks me. Don’t make him into a villain. He isn’t like that. No matter what you and Hudson and Stetson say. He was just a lonely kid that didn’t have any friends and I showed him kindness because that is just who I am. Don’t make mountains out of molehills Harrison.”

Harrison’s face was unreadable, and he slowly nodded, “Okay. You are right. I might have read more into it than I thought. I don’t know. He just seemed off and crazy to me when it came to you. Again, he acted as if he owned you. Like you belonged to him and not in the way it is with Jet. Some of the things he would say to me were weird. Like once he said that ‘My Farren wouldn’t do such a thing.’ And I asked him what that meant by ‘His Farren,’ but he would immediately change his words and act like he hadn’t said it that way. I don’t know. I just don’t like it.”

He shook his head and looked at her, “I shouldn’t read more into it?”

Farren touched his arm, “No. You shouldn’t. All that stuff from school is water under the bridge. It’s okay. We are adults now. Ted is a grown ass man. He wouldn’t do something crazy.”

Harrison didn’t look convinced and Farren pushed on, “He didn’t ask to see me, did he? How long has he wanted to meet up?”

Harrison shook his head, “He hasn’t asked to see you, no. But he knows I wouldn’t allow it anyway.”

She rolled her eyes at that, and Harrison said, “He has asked since the wedding. It’s the same night you met Jet. It just seems strange to me.”

She shrugged, “You are reading too much into this. Ted is a nice guy and while I didn’t like him pushing to ask me out, he never did anything that made me feel creeped out or scared. Not like what you are describing. I mean come on. He hasn’t even talked to me since school. If he was so obsessed with me, don’t you think he would have done something before now?”

Harrison nodded slightly and said, “But you weren’t dating anyone before now, so maybe he didn’t see a reason?”

Farren sighed, “You are crazy. Just let it be. Ted just wants to see his friend. And if he asks about me, just say I’m happy. Okay? That’s all.”

Harrison nodded, “I guess you are right. I will go see him.”

He tapped on his phone for a second and put it back in his pocket.

“There. It’s done. If he acts weird though, I will call him out on his shit.”

Farren rolled her eyes at him again, “You do whatever you have to do Harrison. I’m sure it’s fine.”

Harrison nodded, “When did you get to be the voice of reason?”

Farren laughed, “I have always been the voice of reason. You crazy brothers of mine didn’t exactly listen though.”

Harrison chuckled, “I guess. Do you still want some French toast?”

She looked at him like he was crazy, “Why do you think I’m in here? Food. Duh.”

He laughed and set to making some French toast. After they ate, Farren took a shower and got ready for the day. She wanted to go shopping with Rowen for a little bit and was glad the roads were better today. She pulled her snow boots on and her coat and went out to her car, grateful that Harrison cleaned it off before he left. She sat down in the car and turned it on. It made a weird noise, but she figured it was from the cold. She started to back out of the driveway, and it didn’t want to move. She sighed and shut the car off. She pulled out her phone and called Rowen.

“Hey, are you on your way?”

“No. My car is being weird. It made a weird noise when I started it and now it won’t move.”

“Shoot. I will come grab you. See you soon.”

“Thanks Rowen. I appreciate it.”

Farren got out of her car and went back into the house to wait. She sat on the couch and looked at the fireplace, where she and Jet had slept last night. She shut her eyes and let out a slow breath. She never thought she could love someone like Jet. That it could hit her that hard and fast. He completed her in ways she hadn’t known she was lacking. And she loved everything about him.

She wouldn’t ever take him for granted. She pulled out her phone and sent him a text, telling him how much she loved him and then a car pulled in her driveway. She grinned when she saw Rowen wave from the front seat. She hurried out to the car and grinned even wider when Rowen pulled her in for a hug.

“I missed you. It seems like Christmas break has dragged on and on.”

Farren chuckled, “We only have this weekend left. And then school. What’s wrong?”

Rowen sighed and put the car in reverse, “It’s my mom. After she met her new boyfriend, she seems to think she can run my life. That they have a say on what I do and who I date. Since he has a lot of money, they seem to think I should marry someone who can run in their circle. But I don’t want anything to do with them. Or their lifestyle. I live on my terms and mine alone. I left when I was seventeen for a reason. I just hate that Raegan is there alone. That she has to put up with their garbage. Who knows what filth they are using to poison her mind?”

Farren rubbed Rowen’s hand in comfort, “I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what that is like. For either of you.”
