Farren said nothing and he went on, “I don’t know what else is broken. But your leg is. I think it’s twisted wrong. I gave you some medicine, but I doubt it will work long.”
She turned her head away from him and he grabbed her face and turned her back toward him.
It made her cry out in pain and he snarled, “You were supposed to wait for me. I was doing everything I could to get our lives ready.”
She felt her eyes fill with tears, “What are you talking about? I need to go to the hospital Ted. Please.”
He shook his head, “I will get some things to wrap your leg and to bandage your face. You will be good as new soon.”
She shook her head, “I won’t. Nothing you do can help me. Not like they would at a hospital.”
Ted waved her words away, “I have seen enough medical shows that I can figure it out. You will be fine.”
She shook her head again, “No. I won’t be. Why are you doing this?”
He blinked down at her, “Didn’t you realize? You are mine. I knew it from the first moment you smiled at me at school. I never had anyone treat me like a person. Until you. Harrison tried, but he really didn’t do a good job. I could see that he didn’t really like me, just was nice to me because he was popular, and he wanted everyone to like him. The only one who saw me was you. Only you. You saw me. Were nice to me. You are mine Farren. I knew I had to give you space to grow up, but I haven’t been far from you.”
She felt her blood go cold, “What do you mean?”
He smiled, but it held no warmth or joy. “I was at school with you. I didn’t attend class or anything, but I watched over you while you were there. I let all of the boys there know you were mine. That you are mine. Same with the teachers in your school. You weren’t to be touched. Some of them still tried, and I had to kill them when they wouldn’t let it go, but it was all worth it. You are worth it. Worth this entire wait.”
She didn’t know what to say, but as he spoke, her stomach rebelled at his words, and he stroked her face again.
“You see, I bought this house and I want to fill it with our memories and our kids. I just know you will be a great mother. You are so good with the kids in your class. You are so patient, and I don’t know how you do it. I hate kids, but ours will be different. Because they will have you as a mother.”
Farren held back a shudder and Ted went on as if he hadn’t just dropped that little bomb on her.
“I know where you live. Where you work. I watch you when you walk out to your car most nights. You have something about you that I want to have just for myself.”
He leaned forward and Farren wrenched her face out of his hands, “Stop it Ted! Please stop!”
He looked down at her, anger filling his features. “You aren’t supposed to fight me this hard. This was supposed to be easy. You were supposed to accept this with open arms. I have read about things like this in books. Girls see their captor as someone they can fall in love with. That’s us. I just know it. But I see it’s going to take more time to accept that I am your life now. You were tainted by him.”
He sneered the last word out and Farren gasped, “You know about Jet?”
Ted snarled, “Jet. I am going to take pleasure in killing him. Slowly. He touched you. Kissed you and took what belongs to me. What I waited years for. Your body. Your virginity.” He hissed out and she shuddered slightly.
He took a deep breath through his nose with it buried in her neck and said, “Your blood should have been on me. On my cock. Not his.”
Farren held back a shudder of revulsion and she shook her head, “Even if I hadn’t met Jet, I still wouldn’t want to be with you. I never did when we were in school, and I don’t feel that way about you now. Please Ted. Understand me. I don’t have feelings for you that way. You are a good man. Or you were, but you can stop this. Fix it. I need to go to the hospital and back to my family. You need to let me go.”
Ted shook his head vehemently, “I will never let you go. You will learn to love me. I know it. You just need more time.”
Farren yelled, even though it jarred her broken rib, “No! It will NEVER happen. I love Jet! You're not the man for me. The right man wouldn’t have crashed into my car, left my best friend in the freezing cold to die and kidnapped an injured woman. You know this, Ted. You know it. My perfect man wouldn’t kill innocent men just because they set their sights on me. You did that. You hurt people all because you see it in your twisted mind that I am yours. But I’m not. I never have been, and I never will be. Even if you force me, I will never submit to you. I will never cave.”
Ted’s face filled with so much anger, Farren flinched away, and he raised his hand, striking her across the face.
Pain exploded in her head, and she whimpered as the room blacked out for a second and spots danced in her vision.
“You will be mine. If it’s the last thing I do.”
He leaned in and licked up her face, making her shudder and trying to clear her vision. Then he stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind him. Farren fought against the tears, but knew it was a losing battle. They streamed down her cheeks, and she bit her lip to try to hold in the sobs.
Just this morning she had told Harrison that there was no way a man like Ted could hurt her. That he had moved away and that was the end of it. But how wrong she had been. She turned her head into her arm and muffled the sobs.
She was in so much pain, from her head to her toes and she could barely breathe. She prayed that Jet would find her and knew in her heart and soul that he wouldn’t stop until she was back in his arms. The darkness overtook her again and Farren slumped against the bed.
