Jet nodded, “I took it off because my girlfriend was kidnapped, and I had to go after her. The man who took her attacked me and I hit my shoulder against the wall. But I’m fine.”
The doctor's eyebrows were high on his forehead, “That is quite the story. I don’t think you did something to hurt the healing process, but you will need to wear your sling again and not take it off unless it’s necessary. You need to not pick up anything more than ten pounds.”
Jet nodded and the doctor grinned, “Let me get you a new sling.”
He walked from the room and returned a few minutes later and helped Jet into the sling.
Jet walked back out to his family and his mom hugged him. “I’m glad you got it looked at.”
He smiled, “Me too.”
The doctor that had been working on Farren came out, “I need to talk to the family of Farren Anderson.”
Jet stood as Harrison and his parents waved him over.
He walked to Harrison’s side, “Farren is out of surgery. Her leg has a few pins in it, to keep the bones in place. We were able to fix her lung as well. She will be fine.”
Jet had to lock his knees so he didn’t collapse to them with relief. He distantly heard Farren’s mom asking if they could see her. The doctor replied that she would be situated in a room first and then they could go see her.
As Farren’s dad thanked the doctor, Harrison looked over at him and grabbed his arm. “Jet? Are you okay?”
Jet nodded and took a few deep breaths, remembering what he was taught in the SEALs and how to relax under the most intense situations.
“I will be fine now that I know she is.”
Harrison stared at him, “I think you should be the first to go see her.”
Jet looked at him in shock and then over to Farren’s parents.
They also nodded, and Farren’s mom, Emerson smiled at him gently, “We have heard a lot about you Jet. From Farren and from Harrison. I’m so happy that Farren has you. Found you. That you weren’t afraid to stand up to this oaf right here.”
Jet’s mouth twitched and Emerson went on, “You saved our girl, and we are in your debt. Forever.”
Jet smiled softly, “I would do anything for Farren. Anything. I am angry that I didn’t get to her sooner.”
Emerson hugged him softly, not touching his sling, and she shook her head, as did Farren’s dad, Garrett.
“You didn’t know some mad man was going to take her. No one did. Harrison and Stetson are beating themselves up about it. That they didn’t see it sooner. But it was no one’s fault but the man that took Farren. He was the only one who could have made that choice and he did. You did what you could. And you found her when it would have taken the cops that much longer to find her. Time that she might not have had. As my wife said, we are forever in your debt.”
Jet shook his head, “I didn’t do this so I would be in your debt. I did it because Farren is my life and I can’t live without her. She is my everything. My entire soul. I knew I was barely surviving before. And I wouldn’t be able to if she died.”
Emerson hugged him again, “You are a good man Jet. We are grateful for you. Not just for finding her, but for loving her.”
“I will always love her. Until we are old and gray, I will love her.”
Emerson blinked hard, and Jet saw a tear slide down her face, “As soon as they say we can see her, you need to be the first. Okay?”
Jet started to shake his head and she put her hands on her hips, “I know you want to have us see her since we are family and I can tell you will try to argue, but don’t. I know Farren needs you by her side. She will have us later, but she needs you more than us. Okay?”
Jet gave in and gave her a slight nod.
A nurse came out a second later, “I was told to bring you to Farren Anderson’s room.”
Everyone in the waiting room stood and Jet looked at each person who had come to support him and for Farren and Rowen. He mentally thanked them all and then turned and followed the nurse to Farren’s room.
