Aria studied him, “Mom. I think Jet needs some food.”
Jet chuckled, “Thanks squirt. I think I’m okay.”
She studied him for a second again, “Well. Then maybe I need food.”
Scout snorted behind them, and their dad laughed, “Well then sweetheart, let’s go get some ice cream.”
Aria leaned forward and kissed Jet’s cheek again.
“I love you Jet. Get better soon.”
He kissed her back, “I love you too squirt. Listen to dad. And we will get to be at my house soon.”
She got off his bed and put her crutches on and walked out with their dad.
Scout looked at Gwen, “She is my favorite in the whole world.”
Gwen looked to the shut door and nodded, “She is mine too.”
Jet let out a protesting noise, “Hey, injured child over here.”
Gwen shook her head, “She is everyone’s favorite.”
Jet nodded, “Yes. You are right.”
She walked over to him and brushed his hair out of his face.
“Did you want anything to eat?”
He shook his head, “I don’t know. I’m not really hungry. More tired than anything.”
A knock sounded on the door and the doctor walked in, “Ah. Our lucky patient. How are you feeling?”
Jet looked up at the man. He had salt and pepper brown hair and kind eyes.
“I wish I could say I feel fine, but that would be a lie. I’m really tired. And my stitches feel itchy and tight.”
The doctor came to his side and checked the ones in his shoulder and stomach. Jet sucked in a breath when the doctor touched those ones and he looked up,
“A little tender here?”
Jet nodded and the man looked again, “I think we need to up your dose of antibiotics. But other than that, you look good. You can eat when you want. I can have the nurse bring you a tray. Start slowly. Mainly liquids and soft things for now. Let your body adjust to eating again.”
“Thank you.”
The doctor smiled, “Do you have any other questions?”
“When is the soonest I can get out of here?”
The doctor smiled even wider, “SEALs. Always think they are so tough. And they are. Give yourself some time to rest. I would say within the end of the week.”
Jet put his head back, and then nodded, “I need to get out of here sooner. There is a big event I need to attend.”
The doctor sighed, “I will see what I can do. I don’t want to rush you or your recovery though. You got shot a few days ago. You are lucky that you survived. That you got hit where you did.”
“I understand that. I really do. But I feel fine.”
The doctor shook his head, “You feel that way now, but when we get you on your feet for the first time it’s going to be much harder for you. Trust me on that.”
