She was hoping that they could go further. Gage had made her come, but he had stopped it before they went further, which was her fault.

She ran her fingers gently over the wooden banister on his staircase as she made her way to the kitchen and to try to find Gage.

She had passed out after two orgasms and she wanted to find him.

She thought she heard his voice and she made her way toward it and Gage's phone rang, and he went stiff when he answered it as she could see him in what looked like an office.

His face went dead and she lifted an eyebrow, and he said, “What girl? She is nothing. Nobody.”

"Look; she is a means to an end. That's it. She fucking saw me after I killed my associate. I just have to make sure she won't talk."

He made an impatient noise in the back of his throat, “So what if I took her back to my house? Am I not allowed to get pleasure until I can handle it?”

He growled, “You fucking asshole. She means nothing. She never has and never will. All I want from her is to make sure she won’t say a fucking word. That she knows I’m serious.”

He looked like he bit something back and rolled his eyes and then chuckled, "Women need to feel like they mean something to us. I know that much at least. Give me some credit."

He told her earlier that he never touched another woman. That it made him physically ill to even think about it. But he was lying. Then and now.

She bit her lip to keep from crying and had heard enough and Gage went to say something else and she rushed back up to his room and found her shoes

She had to get out of here. To lock herself away from the world and never come back out.

Her heart was broken and she was so devastated all the way to her core.

She shoved her feet into her shoes and then grabbed anything else that was hers.

Then she rushed down the stairs and out the front door and toward the gate.

She stepped out of it and then walked down the street as the tears started to blur her vision and she blinked them back.

He wasn’t worth it.

She made it back to the store and up to her room before the tears really fell.

She couldn’t believe he would act like that. From the beginning he was cold and indifferent.

But not to her. Not like he was to everyone else.

He was softer with her. And yet, now she knew it was all a lie.

He didn’t believe she wouldn’t tell someone about the man he killed and got close to her.

So he could do what? Kill her too? She didn’t think he would lift a finger to hurt her, but what did she know?

She didn’t even know him. Not really.

But she knew deep inside her heart that he wouldn’t hurt her. Not like that.

He could hurt her other ways and she knew that.

Hated that the first man she had ever gotten close to had betrayed her.

Had thrown her love and want of something more in her face.

She shut her eyes and sobbed against the pillow.

At least she hadn’t given him her virginity.
