Truth came around the corner and sat down next to her. “Wow. That was intense. I can see what you meant about him. He doesn’t give away much. But he did tell me enough. Did you hear the first part?”
Honor shook her head, and Truth said, “He told me that someone called him and basically threatened him about you. Gage didn’t want anyone to come after you, so he told the man lies. He had to. His past and his job make him a target and he didn’t want that on your back. Like he said, he would protect you. No matter what.”
Honor felt the tears come to her eyes, “He really said that?”
Truth nodded, “I knew when you came down. I saw you. He didn’t lie to me, Honor. I know it deep in my soul. He doesn’t seem like he is a man that plays games with people. He doesn’t seem to be the sort to mess with you or anyone. I think what you see is what you get with Gage.”
Honor looked over at her sister, “He is like that, isn’t he?”
Truth grinned, “I don’t know him, but yeah. I like him though. He is absolutely perfect for you.”
Honor felt a smile pull at her lips, “I jumped pretty far into all those conclusions didn’t I?”
Truth snorted, “You did. You need to give him a chance.”
Honor put her chin on her arms, “Why are you so wise?”
Truth hit her shoulder against Honor’s, “I am the oldest. Of course I’m smarter, more wise.”
Honor smiled and then hugged Truth. “I have to go.”
Truth nodded, “Get your guy. And then tell me all about it.”
Honor stood and rushed upstairs with Truth and Truth helped her find the perfect outfit, complete with some new lingerie and Honor looked at herself in the mirror, with Truth by her side.
Truth laughed, “He is gonna swallow his tongue. Good luck girl.”
Honor hugged her sister once more and then rushed out to her car and drove over to Gage’s house.
It was dark and she was worried that Gage wasn’t home, but she saw his car in the driveway, so she got out of hers and walked up to the front door.
Taking a deep breath, she knocked and hoped that he would answer.
ChapterSeven
Gage
After they had lost the trail of the man they were hunting, they went home and slept for a little while.
Then he got up and drove to Honor’s store. He had to see her. To get her to give him a chance.
But it wasn’t Honor that opened the door, and instead it was a woman who looked similar to her.
She was beautiful, sure, but she didn’t hold a candle to Honor, because Honor was not just beautiful. She had an inner light that drew him to her like a moth to a flame.
She listened to what he had to say and he found himself telling Honor’s sister about his own sister.
He couldn’t believe that he told her everything, but he had to let her know that the last thing he wanted to do was to hurt Honor.
And when he was done saying what he had to say, he left and drove straight home and ran up the stairs to his room, stripping off his suit and pulling on some of his workout shorts and then went to the basement.
He went to his stereo and turned on some music as loud as it would go and wrapped his hands.
He looked at his punching bag and rolled his neck, popping it as he did.
Then he started to swing at the bag, hitting it over and over.
He had to get his aggression out somehow.
