She needed to stop this line of thinking. To not think of the man who made her want more.

She shut her eyes and put her arms on the shower wall, resting her head there as the water sprayed over her back, warmer now than when she first got in.

She didn’t like the way she was acting or that her dreams had gotten away from her.

She wasn’t some silly school girl to gush over a man and yearn for more.

That had never been her. Not once.

She needed to get a hold of herself.

Standing up straight, she told herself that she wouldn’t think of him once today and that she would be professional and get through her day.

She showered quickly, then turning the water off, she looked at herself in the mirror.

Her cheeks were still flushed, and her lips were pouty and red as if she had been kissing him.

She sucked in a breath and turned away from her image, walking into her room, getting dressed in some jeans and a warm long-sleeved shirt.

Then she went back into the bathroom and quickly did her hair into two braids.

She put on some eyeshadow, some liner, and a few swipes of mascara, and then she smiled at her reflection.

She walked out the door and drove to the salon, smiling when she saw Kynlee holding a cup of her favorite coffee.

“I knew you loved me,” she said as she took the cup, taking a sip.

Kynlee smiled, “You know it babe.”

They opened the door and were assaulted by the scents of color, perm solution, acrylic monomer, and cleaning solution.

Kynlee flipped the lights on, then walked over to the reception desk, opened the book that was filled with their appointments, writing something down.

Avery went to her station, turning on her straightener, curling irons, waver, and ensuring she took the used tools out of the barbicide and let them dry.

She sat down in the chair, sipping her coffee, shutting her eyes, and savoring the flavor and caffeine.

Kynlee walked over, making Avery open her eyes and smile.

Kynlee sat in the chair next to Avery’s station, “How was your night? I want to go out to dinner after work. I don’t want to cook again.”

Avery laughed, “I’m totally okay with that.”

“When does your mom get back? I would love to have her come along if she wants.”

Avery grinned, “She is on this week now. I think she will be in New York tonight. Oh my gosh, she sent me pictures of the cutest pilot last night.”

Kynlee sat forward, “Really? Show me!”

Avery raised her eyebrows, “Uh. You are enthusiastic.”

Kynlee shrugged, “Sorry. I just haven’t seen any cute pilots.”

Avery set her coffee down, then pulled her phone out of her purse.

She bit her lip as she got the pictures up, showing them to Kynlee.

Kynlee grabbed the phone, “Holy cow,” she let out a small breath of what seemed relief, then went on like she hadn’t, “He is hot! Oh my gosh! Your mom works with him?”
