Bo smiled, and they drove to the airfield. “Your mom told me that you are old enough to fly in my plane now. Do you want to?”

Bo nodded, and they walked to the small plane that John owned.

He checked everything over and then helped Bo into the seat and gave him headphones with a speaker.

He started up the plane, and they drove to the runway and got clearance to fly.

Bo watched in awe as John pushed a few buttons and then started take-off.

Bo grinned as the plane lifted into the air and looked out the window as the sky greeted them.

He stared out the window as the ground grew smaller, and he looked at his dad, who was also smiling.

“What do you think?”

Bo laughed, “I love it.”

John grinned, “There was a reason I named you and your siblings after flying and the sky. It’s my passion. Even with it being my job. I never get bored. Never grow annoyed. It’s a haven. Your mother knows that. She understands the love I have for being in the sky.”

Bo looked back over the ground far below them and put his head against the window, “I like the sky too.”

“Have you ever thought about what you wanted to do when you get older?”

Bo shook his head, “I don’t know. But flying is in my blood. I know that Jet wants to fly too.”

John smiled, “I want you to find the path that suits you. Not one I followed. Okay?”

Bo nodded, “Okay.”

“If you do choose to fly, I will be there to support you every step of the way.”

Bo thought about that while his dad turned them in the sky and flew for another hour as they talked about everything and nothing.

When they landed, Bo felt the loss of the sky.

He had liked the freedom and knew why his dad loved it.

Over the next few years, Bo took all the classes he could to advance in life and started to take flying lessons from a friend of his dad’s.

The first time he flew with his dad, Bo himself got to fly the plane? It was something that Bo never forgot.

And because he was busy flying any chance he could, with his instructor or with his dad, and trying to take any extra classes he could, he didn’t have much time for anything else.

His mom would argue with him that he could take a small break from school to go to a dance or date.

He didn’t think any of the girls at school were worth his time; it was too important right now to follow his dreams, not waste time dating.

Because of his hard work, he got his student pilot’s license the day he turned seventeen and flew with his dad that day all alone.

It was the highlight of his life to do so.

He wanted to be a pilot like his dad and Jet. That was his only goal.

Jet had left to join the Navy and be a pilot there, and Bo was so proud of his brother.

He told Jet this before Jet left, and they hugged, "Come back in one piece, or I will come over there and kick your ass," Bo said, making Jet laugh, "I will, little brother. Don't worry about me."

Bo knew Jet was doing what he wanted in life. He was more determined than ever to follow in his dad's and brother's footsteps.
