Avery went still, “I don’t know if my mom will be okay with this. She doesn’t want to give Ashton anything that he could hold over her in any way.”
“I know sweetheart. But this is something that I need from the people I trust the most. I’m old and ready to live my life, but I need to leave the company in good hands, otherwise, everything that your grandfather and his father built will be for nothing. Our family legacy needs more than that.”
Avery shut her eyes for a second, and then opened them, “Okay. We will help you. I know that this won’t be easy for mom, but I will help you.”
Jessica let out a breath of relief, “Good. That’s good. Thank you Avery. I know this isn’t what you would have wanted, but I appreciate it.”
Avery smiled, “You are my grandma. I want to be there to help you in any way I can.”
“You are a good woman Avery. Aynsley did a great job with you.”
Avery smiled wider, “Thanks grandma.”
Jessica laughed a little, “You are welcome sweetheart. So, now that business is done, is there anything new? Besides the hair? I like it, by the way.”
“Thank you. I do too. Kynlee helped me yesterday.”
“Kynlee. She is a great girl. I love her.”
Avery laughed, “She sure is. She is kind of,” she looked over her shoulder to see Kynlee’s legs wrapped around West’s waist, “Wrapped up at the moment.”
Jessica went quiet, “What do you mean? What happened?”
Avery smiled, “Well, um. Yesterday, Kynlee and I met some men.”
“Good men? What does your tone mean?”
Avery smiled wider, “I promise they are the best. I wouldn’t date anyone if they weren’t anything less than the greatest.”
“Date? You are dating? Already?”
Avery laughed, “Yes. Bo is hard to say no to. He is the greatest man.”
“He didn’t force you did he?”
Avery shook her head, “He would never. Even with barely knowing him, I know he is honorable and kind. He only wants my happiness. And I,” she paused, biting the end of her fingernail, “I think I love him.”
Her grandma didn’t say anything for a minute, and Avery said, “Grandma? Are you going to say something?”
“I just am trying to understand. Most couples don’t just see each other and know that’s it for them. Love takes longer. Real love.”
Avery let out a tiny sigh, “I know that grandma. But I have heard all the stories. From you, from my mom about my other grandparents. I know that sometimes love actually can happen at first sight and I know for a fact that it did with Bo and I. He is it for me. I feel it in my heart and soul that he is my other half. That I don’t have to search for him anymore because I found the perfect guy for me. He makes me happy. Even without knowing each and every single detail of his life, I know that he is mine.”
Jessica was silent again, then she said, “Is he good to you? Really good?”
Avery smiled, “The absolute best. I’m going to marry him and give him all the babies.”
“Babies? I’m on board with this.”
Avery laughed and Jessica said, “In all seriousness, if he is a good man, that is all that matters to me. But, if I hear of him ever treating you with anything less than the respect you deserve, I will not allow it.”
Avery smiled, “I will let you know if he ever slips up. I love you, grandma.”
Jessica said, “I love you too. I want to meet him when I come.”
“You absolutely will.”
They said goodbye and Avery turned around to see Kynlee wasn’t wrapped up in West’s arms anymore.
