“I don’t think I will.”

She smiled knowingly.

“Why do you look at me like that? I won’t marry him; you know?”

“You just said that you didn’tthinkyou’d do it and now you changed it to youwon’t… seems you’re still making up your mind.”

“Don’t be stupid. This is Gabriel; you all agreed I should find someone who could accept me for who I am.”

Violet tilted her head. “But do you know who you are?”

“I’m Cia.”

“Does he love Cia?”

“Yes, but he doesn’t love Black – or he says he does, but I don’t think he does.”

“I’m a little confused. You say you want him to love who you are – which is Cia – who you say he loves.”

“Yes. But he can’t just love the person I am now without accepting my past, which is Black.”

“Accepting or loving?” Violet asked.

I didn’t answer.

“Why do you care how he feels about Black, if you’re not her anymore?”

“Because even though I don’t dress as Black, she’s still a big part of me.”

“Ohhh, okay… I get it.” Violet nodded and headed toward the kitchen. “Do you want pasta? And by the way, I need to do another cleansing of the house. I think I dragged home a small demon or something. Have you noticed how things keep moving around in here and the lights flicker?”

“You need to do that tonight?” I asked, already annoyed. I just wanted to watch a movie and chill.

“You can help me if you want or you can take my car and go somewhere. Daniel isn’t home, though.”

Shoot, my first thought had been to go hang out with Daniel. “Where is he?”

“He’s going on a date tonight.”

That’s right. He had told me about it yesterday.

“Don’t worry… it shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to do the ritual,” Violet said, as if that would make me feel better. Suddenly going to see Gabriel sounded like a great idea.
