“Now you will feel no rain – for each of you will be shelter to the other.
“Now you will feel no cold – for each of you will be warmth to the other.
“Now there is no more loneliness – for each of you will be companion to the other.
“Now you are two bodies – but there is only one life before you.
“Go now to your dwelling place – to enter into the days of your togetherness. And may your days be good and long upon the earth.”
Adam picked me up and kissed me long and hard after that.
Cheers broke out and Native songs were sung to the beat of the drum.
I threw my bouquet and the girl who caught it flashed a shy glance at Rick.
“So are you happy to be my husband?” I asked Adam later when we danced an improvised wedding dance.
“I’m extremely proud to be your husband,” he told me and nuzzled his noise against mine. “Who would have thought that a paleface could make me this deliriously happy?”
“Paleface, huh?” I grinned.
“Do you prefer the term blonde?”
I arched a brow in warning, but it only made him laugh.
“I didn’t say dumb blonde,” he teased.
“Don’t forget that I kicked your ass back in the cabin,” I said challenging.
He pulled me closer. “Oh, is that how you remember it, Mrs. Black?”
Our eyes were dancing with humor and electrical sparks of desire were flying between us. “Tell you what,” he whispered in my ear. “I’ll let you try and kick my ass again tonight, but I warn you: this time when I turn you around and press my body down on you, I’ll also be pressing a part of me inside of you.”
“You can try,” I said flirtatiously. “But I won’t make it easy for you.”
“Oh sweetie.” He chuckled and kissed me before he bit my lip as a promise of what to come. “When did you ever make it easy for me?”
“And yet you’re still here,” I whispered.
“And not going anywhere,” he whispered back.
