CHAPTER 12

Faith

Adam

“When are you coming home?” my friend Rick asked on the phone.”

I was sitting inside a limousine while the limo driver and a security guy stood outside with Chloe, waiting for her sister to arrive.

“I told her I would give her until January the third,” I answered.

“You lucky bastard. That’s one hell of a way to spend a Christmas break.” Rick grinned. “Did you sleep with her?”

“Rick, don’t go there; I already told you she’s a diva,” I said and played with a water bottle in the bar next to me.

“Right, but since you’re not a blind man, the thought must have crossed your mind.”

“Of course it did.”

“So? Do some smooth talking. Chicks love you.”

“I don’t want to sleep with her.”

“Why the hell not?”

“Because I’m trying to help her feel better after that bastard of her boyfriend almost killed her. The last thing she needs is for someone like me to sweet-talk her into sex and then walk away.”

“But you know sex is like an anti-depressant, right? Think about it: sex releases all types of hormones that make you happy. So it really would be for a good cause, and it’s not like she would ever ask your poor Native ass to hang around for the red carpet photo shoot.”

“Still, what if she fell in love with me?”

Rick’s laughter lasted for a long time. “Are you serious?”

“It could happen.”

“Man, what have you been smoking?”

“You don’t think I have a chance with her?”

“It’s not that Ithinkyou don’t have a chance with an A-list Hollywood star like Cleo, Adam. Iknowit!”

I tapped my foot, annoyed with him. “You don’t even know her.”

“My point exactly. People like her don’t socialize with people like us and they certainly don’t date us.” He was still laughing. “Imagine taking her to meet your mom.”

“I don’t see my mom.”

“Then your grandparents. Do you think she’s ever been to a trailer park?”

“No.”

“If it was me, I would pump her up with some happy sex hormones and sit there with a huge smile every time I watched a movie with her in the future. Just saying.”

“I’ll think about it,” I told Rick and looked up when Chloe knocked on the window of the car.

“They’re landing,” she shouted with a happy grin and pointed to the sky.”

“Rick, I gotta go, her plane is landing with her sister.”
