There were cheers on the other end and Chloe interrupted their happy outburst saying: “I look forward to meeting you both.”

“Aye, same here.”

Chloe ended the call and I had a feeling that somewhere in Scotland two men were roaring with excitement just about now.

“You could have asked us before you invited them,” Faith scolded her sister. “We were kinda hoping for some alone time.”

“No worries. Just check them into a hotel. They won’t mind.”

Logan nodded. “I like that idea.”

“I was thinking about checking into a hotel myself, since my address has been compromised and I’ve had Nikomaniacs attacking me.”

“Wait, what?” Faith grew serious. “You were attacked?”

“Yes, the other night five vicious fans threw stones at me and hit me.”

“It’s true. The police made five arrests,” I said.

“Jesus, Chloe, were you hurt?”

“My wrist was bruised and I was in shock at first but Adam took care of me.”

“I’m so glad you were there,” Faith told me, her carefree expression from before replaced by one of concern.

“Faith was attacked too,” Logan said but stopped talking when Faith’s eyes bulged in warning.

“Who attacked you?” Chloe asked quickly.

Faith drew a sigh. “Niko did. But then he was arrested and now he’ll never hurt anyone again.”

My human lie detector told me Faith was protecting Chloe from some unpleasant details, and the way Logan took Faith’s hand and squeezed it made me even more sure.

“Did he hit you?” Chloe asked and looked like she was about to cry.

“I’ll tell you some other time,” Faith said and forced a smile. “Sounds like we have a party to plan for.”

Chloe didn’t pursue the matter of Niko’s attack but took a deep breath and spoke in a tone that was unnaturally cheery. “Yes, I want to invite Christian; you remember him, right?”

“Of course I do, you made me go on a date with him.”

Logan stiffened a bit at that comment and Chloe must have noticed too because she broke into a disarming laugh.

“Chill, Logan, no need to worry. Christian only took Faith out because he was trying to make his now girlfriend jealous. And it’s the funniest story because they used to hate each other and Melody is vegan.”

“What’s wrong with being vegan?” I asked.

Chloe answered patiently. “Nothing, except Christian owns a number of steak houses, so they’re not the obvious couple at all.”

Faith broke in. “Well, we only have three days to plan everything, so you better call him fast if you want to give him a chance to change his current plans.”

Being a woman of action, Chloe called Christian right then and there. I sat close enough to hear his voice.

“Hey, Christian, it’s your favorite celebrity,” Chloe used a sweet voice.

“So youarealive. I’ve been calling you endlessly. Are you okay? I’ve been deeply concerned about you after all I’ve heard in the media.”

“I’m fine. Or maybe notfine.” She looked at me with a light frown. “But I’m on a media detox so I don’t have my phone.”
