I stood my ground when he moved in on me, but I automatically stood taller and stronger, unsure what he would do. I had no problem with homosexuals but I wasn’t interested in my own gender sexually.

“Adam Black,” I said with a sharp nod.

“Darren Delicious,” he said seductively and wiggled his eyebrows. “Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?”

Violet came to save me and hooked her arm under Darren’s and led him away to meet the others. Still, he turned his head and called back over his shoulder, “I’ll be back.”

A laugh behind me made me turn to see Christian with an amused smile on his face.

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

“Darren used to have a thing for me,” he said. “But now that you and the Scots are here, I’m off the hook.”

“I heard that,” Darren called from the other end of the room. “And you underestimate me, darling. I’ll always have a thing for you. I’m just a diverse sort of man, and who wouldn’t be intrigued by sexy Highlanders or a naughty Native.”

The Scots and I exchanged a glance and then Christian held up a bottle of wine. “You’ll need this,” he said with humor dancing in his eyes

I took the glass Christian offered me and emptied it in one long gulp.

“Don’t worry, Darren’s not as bad as you think. I’ve actually become very fond of him,” Christian reassured me before he excused himself to check on the food.

It turned out that Christian had prepared five courses, one more delicious than the other.

“I can’t believe you have the energy for all of this with a newborn in the house,” Violet said as we all sat around the gorgeous wooden table.

“I cheated a little,” Christian admitted. “I had help and just had to heat up most of it.”

“Having your own restaurants has its advantages,” Gabriel chipped in.

“But where is the wonder child?” Chloe asked.

“I understand that you just became parents?”

“He’s sleeping,” Melody said. “We’re lucky. Noah’s so easy.”

“And you – do you get any sleep?” Faith asked Melody.

“I’m not complaining. I’m getting used to getting up a few times at night.”

“But we’ll get to see him, right?” Faith asked.

“Of course.” Melody pointed to a baby alarm. “When he wakes up, you can meet him.”

“How old is your baby?” I asked.

“Fifteen days,” Christian said with pride. “And the most handsome baby there ever was.”

“Of course.” I raised my glass to the proud father.

The conversation around the table was buzzing. Chloe had Derek on one side and Andrew on the other.

“Why is it that just because you’re here, you suddenly speak with a lot less of an accent?” Faith challenged the Scots. “Last week when I was in Scotland I had to ask Logan to translate all the time.”

“Och, it’s just that we want Cleo to understand us.” Andrew explained.

“And me? Didn’t you want me to understand you?”

“Aye, of course, but ye had Logan to impress ye with his being bilingual and all.”
