I nodded. “I would! It shouldn’t surprise you since you’re willing to do the same for me.”
Finn pushed his hair back. “But you said that it wasn’t possible for you because of your position and place in your community. What changed?”
I looked down. “I did a lot of thinking last night when I couldn’t sleep. And it became very clear to me that it wouldn’t be possible for me to go back to my old life without you. I would feel like a ghost trapped between two worlds. It would be a sad imitation of living. My heart would be here with you, and my teachings about inner balance would ring hollow.”
Finn cupped my face, and kissed the tip of my nose. “I stand by my words; you are the most beautiful person to walk this earth.”
“Are you guys coming?” Khan called from the doorway to his office.
“We’re coming,” Finn called back before whispering into my ear. “Everything is going to be all right, and once this meeting is over, you and I are going to my room for a nap.”
“A nap?” I wrinkled my brow.
“Uh-huh,” Finn said and gave me a playful smile. “Haven’t you heard that men get tired after sex? With the pent-up desire that I have for you, I guarantee that you’ll be tired too.”
I smiled back at him, momentarily distracted by his sexual energy.
“But what about Tristan?” I asked as we began walking again.
“Don’t worry, we’ll go back to the school later, and when we do, we’ll be smiling – I guarantee it.”
CHAPTER 33
Celebration
Finn
I carried Athena up the stairs, just to be sure that her leg didn’t bother her.
“Last time I carried you up to my room, you were wriggling like crazy,” I reminded her with a chuckle.
“Because I didn’t know you, and I thought you were going to do awful things to me.”
I laughed. “If you’re referring to having sex with you, then you should know that I’m planning to do awful things to you in a minute.”
“The difference is that this time I want you to,” Athena said and played with my hair.
My desire for her made me speed up. When the door to my room wouldn’t open, I set her on her feet and almost kicked it in just to get her into bed.
“Easy, you big brute,” Athena teased, and opened the door. Everything looked like the first time I had brought her here, and for a second she just stood there looking around.
“I remember this place as smaller,” she said. “Maybe because I felt so imprisoned and suffocated in here.”
“You want to go somewhere else?” I asked.
“No, I’m not scared of you and I’m not scared of this room either.”
“Well, I’m scared of you.” I chuckled again. “The way you had the Council eating out of your hand was terrifying. If you hadn’t been there, I doubt Khan and Pearl would’ve gotten half of the things they got away with.”
Athena’s face fell. “Maybe I did go a bit too far,” she said with regret.
“Are you kidding me?” I pulled her to the bed. “You were magnificent, Athena. All of this would’ve happened in time anyway, the wall breaking down, and you being here to negotiate…” I paused and licked my lips. “It only serves to speed up the process, and that’s amazing.”
“I just wanted to be sure that Khan had enough ammunition to calm down the restless among your people.”
“Don’t worry about that.” I kissed her. “Khan will figure out a way, he always does. As long as he’s got Magni on his side, no one will be strong enough to overrule him.”
“That’s just the thing.” Athena looked worried. “The two brothers don’t seem to agree on much, do they?”
