CHAPTER 20
Almost There
Damian
“Open yer eyes, my princess.” I tickled Lumi under her chin. She responded by pushing my hand away.
“Happy birthday.”
Lumi opened an eye and yawned. “Thanks. What time is it?”
“Almost nine.”
Speaking while yawning again made Lumi’s voice distorted. “I had a weird dream.”
“Want to tell me about it?”
“Our shoulders had grown together.”
Damian wrinkled his nose. “Sounds more like a nightmare.”
“Why, I thought you didn’t mind being tied to me.”
“That’s not the point. I was thinkin’ about how difficult it would be to have sex with ye if we were attached by the shoulder.”
“Oh.” Lumi rubbed her eyes. “You know what I want for my birthday more than anything?”
“Let me guess; time alone?”
“Yeesss!!! I love you. But I long for alone time. Don’t you?”
I chuckled. “For me, it’s not so much that I long for alone time, but I can’t wait to be done with the handcuffs. It’s going to be nice to work out again without ye slowin’ me down.”
“I just want to use the bathroom in private.”
“But last night ye said that showerin’ with me was nice.”
“And I meant it. But showering with you takes double the time because of all the sex. Not that I’m complaining, but the two minutes we’re apart to change clothes is not enough.” She nodded to the small screwdriver on the night table that had become our substitute for the key, which was still locked in the time box.
“We’re almost there, princess.”
“We’re a little over halfway. That’s not the same as almost done.”
“Try not to think about it.” I kissed her forehead. “Ye’re twenty-nine today. How does that feel?”
“Good.” Lumi propped herself onto her elbow. “I have a feeling this year will be spectacular.”
“Because of me?”
She smiled. “You and other things.”
“What other things?”
“The Robertson family is expanding. I’m excited for Atlas to marry Jolene, and I’m optimistic that more good things are coming.”
My eyes fell to her stomach. “The Robertson family might expand in other ways too.”
“We’ll see.” Her smile widened and brought out little crinkles at the edges of her eyes.
