CHAPTER 22
Closest to the Door
Damian
“Wow, having sex is so much easier when you’re not tied together,” I exclaimed and rolled onto my back.
Lumi was lying next to me, panting on her stomach with her backside covered in a sheen of glistening perspiration. Her hair was tousled and covered her face.
Slapping her ass, I laughed. “I won’t need to go to the gym if we keep this up.”
“You’re crazy. I thought you were going to drop me.”
“Never! I told ye to trust me.”
“I do trust you. It’s just that normal people don’t have sex like that. I’m not an acrobat.”
“Variety is good. Admit it; ye loved it, didn’t ye?”
Pushing her hair away, Lumi lifted her head from the bed and watched me. “I don’t think I’ll be able to walk tomorrow.”
I rolled back on top of her and covered her with my large body while nibbling on her ear. “That’s fine. Ye know how much I love to carry ye.”
“Damian, I can’t breathe.”
I bit her shoulder a little before crawling off the bed. “I’m taking a quick shower. Wanna come?”
“No. I need a few minutes to catch my breath. You go ahead.”
When I came out of the shower, Lumi was in the middle of changing the bedsheets. She had opened the windows but left the blinds down.
“The sheets were sweaty and stained.”
“Here, let me help ye.” I reached for a pillowcase.
With clean sheets and Lumi freshly showered too, we fell asleep holding hands.
I didn’t know how long I had been out for when a sound penetrated my dream and made me open my eyes.
Looking to my side, I saw Lumi still on her side with her eyes closed and her breathing steady.
There it was again. The sound of the door buzzer, once, twice, three times.
I frowned and was just about to get up when it stopped. Heavy steps from the staircase told me that whatever drunk fool had pressed the wrong button had finally been let into the building.
From the heavy steps, I guessed it to be a man, and with every floor he walked up, I waited for him to enter an apartment. I concluded he was out of shape because of the way his steps slowed the higher he climbed.
I counted floors, and when he moved past the fourth floor downstairs, I got out of bed.
Lumi’s apartment was the only one up here, and I knew she wasn’t expecting any visitors.
Grabbing my phone, I moved to the hallway and looked through the peephole just in time to see a large shadow come up and stop in front of the door. I had a good idea who the middle-aged man in the disheveled suit was. He mumbled a few words before he squinted his eyes and bent down to read the sign on the door.
Pulling back from the peephole, I walked back into the bedroom just as John White began pounding on the door.
Lumi sat up with a gasp. “What’s going on?”
I leaned against the doorframe. “Now, you see why a man should always sleep closest to the door?”
