Damian’s eyes widened. “They’re getting married?”
I clamped a hand in front of my mouth. “Ooops.”
“Awk, it’s too late to take it back now. Tell me everythin’.”
“You can’t tell anyone. Atlas told me that he was going to announce it at the barbeque, but maybe the whole talk about our experiment drowned it out. Atlas proposed to her in Greece. Why don’t you look happy?”
“It’s not that I’m not happy for them. I like Jolene. I’m just worried that Atlas doesn’t have what it takes to keep someone like her satisfied.”
“What do you mean?”
“I love Atlas, but he seems a little dry and… hmm… I’m not sure what the word is.”
“Asexual?” I suggested.
Damian nodded.
“Maybe Jolene is a sapiosexual, and in that case, he’s her perfect match.”
“I don’t know what that means.”
“It’s when someone is turned on by intelligence.”
“Is that a thing?”
“Yes.”
Damian’s forehead wrinkled when he frowned. “Good thing that ye don’t have that fetish, or I’d be in trouble.”
“Stop making it sound like you’re unintelligent. You’re not.”
“Ye’re a math genius, and I struggled in school.”
“So maybeyouare a sapiosexual. Is that what turns you on? My wit and intelligence?”
Damian flashed his white teeth and gave a hearty laugh. “I’m sorry, princess, but I’m not that advanced. I lust for yer gorgeous body with those perky tits.”
“Liar! You said that you like our conversations.”
We laughed together as Damian nuzzled his nose against my hair and ear.
“Did I? Perhaps that’s because, out of all of the women in this world, I respect your opinion the most.”
For a long moment, we sat naked together, looking deep into each other’s eyes. My heart felt like a pool of rose petals when I whispered, “I love you so much.”
Tiny crinkles formed at the corner of Damian’s eyes as his face softened, and a smile grew. “I love ye too, my princess.”
“That was different.”
“Why? I’ve called ye princess before.”
“Yes. But nevermyprincess.”
His lips pressed against mine. “But now ye finally are.”
