Change of Heart
Serena
“Isn’t this a bit over the top?” Nathan muttered under his breath as we walked through the foyer of the hotel with a team of bodyguards.
He was dressed in a sharp suit with a black tie while I had on a black evening dress, my five-inch Louboutin heels, and a small bright red purse to match my soles.
“I always dress up when I go out for dinner and a show.”
“No, I meant the security and the limousine. It’s a twenty-minute walk max.”
Arching a brow, I gave Nathan a smile. “These heels aren’t made for a city stroll. They’re meant for you to get excited about what happens when we get back home.”
Nathan placed his hand on my hip and pulled me closer to his side while whispering. “Oh, I already have plans for that part.”
While exchanging smiles dripping with sexual promises, we exited the glass doors to the outside, where photographers were pushing at each other to get a good shot. Fueled by my love for Nathan, I waved and smiled at the fans that were holding up signs with my name on them filled with hearts.
The limo driver stood ready, holding the door open for us, but this time I didn’t hurry. I was looking my best, and this arrangement was about making a statement that Nathan and I were officially a couple. Flashing my pearly white straight teeth, I took time to meet fans, take a few selfies, and sign some autographs.
Nathan stayed close and looked embarrassed when a young teenage girl with braces who was clearly feeling high from all the screaming she and her friends were doing called out to him. “Oh my god, you’re so hot.”
“I agree,” I said and laughed before signing another autograph.
The fans’ love for us was such a welcome change from the attacks Nathan and I had suffered this last month in the media. There would always be haters, but just like Denise and I had hoped, theNew York Timesarticle had caused a radical shift in the questions that the reporters called out to us.
“Did you know Storm was homosexual?”
“Are you aware of the many men stepping forward to say they slept with Storm this last year?”
“Have you confronted Storm about cheating on you?”
I stopped to answer. “No I haven’t seen any of that. I’ve been too busy having a good time with Nathan. If Storm has found someone that makes him happy, that pleases me. Love is love and we clearly weren’t the right match.”
“Nathan, have you seen all the people gushing over you on Twitter and calling you a hero for protecting your colleagues from Gomez?”
“Ehh, no. I try to stay away from Twitter. Last time I checked people weren’t very friendly.”
“Are you two officially together now?”
Taking Nathan’s hand, I leaned against him with a loving smile. “Yes, we’re very much together.”
When we were finally in the limo, Nathan leaned his elbow on the doorframe and looked out the tinted window. “That was bizarre.”
“What? The reporters or the girls calling out to you?”
“It’s like going from one extreme to another. For a month, I’ve been the bad guy everyone hated, and now they treat me like I’m special.”
“Youarespecial.” I ran my hand up his thigh.
The limo rolled away from the crowd as Nathan turned his face back to me. “I’ll support you in everything you do, but it’ll take me a while to get used to the screaming fans. Their screams are so…” He searched for the right word. “High-pitched.”
“Not everyone is like that. Most are calm and just eager to meet me. It’s the young ones that can’t control their excitement, but it’s cute. I used to be like them. Acne, braces, celebrity crushes... all of it.”
“Really? But you were part of the industry yourself.”
I laughed and felt elated from the shift in attitude we’d just experienced from the public. “What? You think actors are exempt from getting star-struck? We might even have it worse than others, because we admire not just another actors’ looks, but their talent too. You should have seen me the first time I met Zac Efron. I was eleven or twelve, and my room was decorated with posters of him fromHigh School Musical, and then one night, he took a girlfriend to see the show I was performing in, and they came backstage. I’d just been singing and dancing for a thousand people, but as soon as Zac spoke to me, I was too shy to produce a single syllable.”
“You were into Zac Efron?”
