I meant those words with all my heart, and even though Serena was probably angry with me, I hoped that she would read the part about my not regretting kissing her.

“Have you spoken to Serena today?”

“No.”

“She hasn’t reached out to you?” Prisha puckered her puffy lips with the bright red lipstick.

“No.”

“Not even with a text?”

“No.”

“What about Storm?”

“Sorry?” I lifted a hand to my ear gesturing that I didn’t hear her. There was too much white noise from talking groups of people, coffee machines, and tables getting cleared of plates, glasses, and silverware.

Prisha leaned closer across the table. “I said, have you heard from Storm? Has he made any sort of threats to you?” Prisha’s eyes glowed, and I was sure she already envisioned a juicy headline with tension between Storm and me.

“I haven’t heard from Storm.”

“Are you scared that he might seek revenge?”

Straightening up in my chair, I squared my shoulders. “Do I look defenseless to you?”

Prisha’s eyes roamed down my body with a smile. “No, you look very… ehm… fit. It’s just that most men would probably feel intimidated by someone like Storm Johnson.”

I snorted, but when I opened my mouth to tell her I could take Storm with one hand tied behind my back, I was stopped by a kick under the table from River.

“Do you have what you need?” River hurried to ask Prisha while pushing to the edge of her seat with one of her signature smiles that never reached her eyes.

“I have a few more questions for Nathan. How does it feel to see your face trending on Twitter?”

“It’s weird, but I’m not someone who spends much time on social media. If it were up to me we wouldn’t be talking to you or anyone about this. It’s River who has a need to tell our side of the story.”

“Yes, but what exactly is your side of the story? You got to know Serena in January, and you want me to believe that you’ve had no contact with her since then, do you?”

“That’s the truth.”

“So, you two decided to meet up while she was in Dublin and you drank too much and ended up kissing her.”

“That sums it up.”

“Did anything happen after that?”

“If you’re asking if I slept in my own bed, the answer is yes.”

“So nothing happened after that kiss?”

“We talked and realized that we weren’t on the same page, so I left.”

“Hmmm…” Prisha studied me. “When you say that you weren’t on the same page, what do you mean?”

“I’ve told you everything I’m willing to share. My conversation with Serena was private, and it’ll stay that way.”

River stood up. “We have to go now, but I’m sure you can work with what we gave you, right?”

Prisha stood up too. “I can. Thank you, but before you go, River, can I just ask you how you feel about your brother making out with the woman who came between you and Storm?”
