“Nathan… yeeess… I want…”

I kept going, waiting for her command.

“I want… Ohh…. Yeeess.”

“What do you want?” My voice sounded low and hoarse.

“You… inside me… now!” Opening her eyes, she reached for me and pulled me higher on her body.

Tell her!

“Did you bring protection?” she asked and slid right into position underneath me.

“Serena…”

Tell her!

Serena broke eye contact and pointed to her small backpack. “I have some. Grab my pack, will you?” She was eager, and I wanted nothing more than to slip on a condom and fuck my dream woman. At the same time, my brain was short-circuiting from the big pile of unresolved shit between us, and more than anything, I didn’t want her to regret sleeping with me.

“Wait. Don’t you think we should talk first?”

“It’s fine. I’m clean. You?”

“I’m clean too, but that’s not what I meant. The last time I saw you, things didn’t end well, and there’s something I need to tell you.”

Serena pulled back enough to look at me. “Okay, I’m listening.”

“Right… uhm.” I drew in a breath and tried to find the right way to tell her while my dick was throbbing against her warm body shouting at me that I was the world’s biggest fool for bringing up something that would surely make her push me away. “You have to understand that we thought you were really with Storm.”

“Who’s we?”

“River and I. So, when you invited River to meet up with you on Saturday, she was perturbed that you’d steal her boyfriend only to pretend like nothing happened.”

“I already said that I’m sorry about that. I felt certain you both knew it was for marketing purposes. Storm assured me that he told her.” Serena’s fingers slid through my short hair, and she nibbled on my jaw.

Don’t tell her. Please her!

No, tell her!

My mind was at war, but I forced myself to continue my confession. “But Stormdidn’ttell River, and so when you asked us to meet you, we came up with a plan to get back at you and Storm for hurting River.”

“What do you mean?” Serena stopped moving under me, and I gave her a bit more room between us.

My hand touched her shoulder. “God, I feel shitty for telling you this, but basically, we decided that I was going to get a kiss from you on camera, and then we would send the photos to Storm. We imagined that he’d be heartbroken and experience the pain of being cheated on for himself.”

Serena’s eyes widened. “Youknewsomeone was taking those photos?”

“Yes.” I touched her wrist but she pushed me off her. “It was supposed to be for Storm’s eyes only. When you told me your engagement was a scam, I figured Storm would just delete the photos. We never thought he would sell them to a magazine.”

Serena’s left hand covered her collarbone while her right pulled the duvet over her. “So, you’reallin on it? You took the photos, and he sold them.”

“I would have never done it if I’d known the truth about the scam. It made no sense to me that you hooked up with Storm less than a week after our trip. I mean, you gave me your number and asked me to stay in touch. I felt so stupid for thinking we shared a connection.”

Two deep vertical lines formed between Serena’s eyebrows. “Wedidshare a connection, or I wouldn’t have given you my number to begin with.” She picked up her dress from the foot end of the bed and covered her chest. “I can’t believe you set me up like that. Who took the photos? Was it River?”

“No. It was a friend of ours who’s a private detective.”

“Wow!” Shaking her head, Serena looked away and stayed quiet for a moment before she muttered, “And you couldn’t tell me this before we flew up to a cabin with nowhere for me to go?”

“I’m sorry, but I figured we would have time to talk it through once we got here. I didn’t think we’d end up in this situation so fast.” I swung a hand to emphasize that we were in bed.

“I need some fresh air.” Without looking at me, Serena dressed and walked to the door.

“Do you want me to come with…” I didn’t get a chance to finish my sentence before she’d closed the door, hard.
