“It’s the principle of Yin and Yang. I suspect that there’s some darkness to counteract the light he shows us.”
“Maximum isn’t acting. He’s genuinely kind,” Lumi defended our brother. “He’s the light that counteracts Conor’s darkness.”
“Huh.” Damian scoffed. “Don’t be naïve. Every one of ye have issues from what happened in that cult. Maximum hides it well, but he’s carryin’ somethin’ dark inside him, I sense it.”
I swallowed, knowing in my gut that Damian was right.
Later that night, after our guests’ stomachs were full of delicious food, wine, and drinks, the party got wilder.
Noah and I took a break from dancing and stood outside to get some fresh air.
“Your people know how to party,” he said and pointed with a thumb over his shoulder. “I just saw Damian lift my mom up and swing her around. She’s grinning from ear to ear every time he talks in that Irish accent. I think my photo wall will be taken down for a picture of another cop soon.”
I laughed. “You’re not a cop anymore.”
“I know. And I’m super excited about starting this new chapter with you. It would be amazing if we could find a place for the institute before we go on our honeymoon in June.”
“Yes, we have some big decisions ahead of us, and I’ve already made two major ones.” I bit my lower lip.
“Marrying me and what else?”
“I was referring to my decisions that I’m selling my townhouse in London and that I’m taking a break from social media.”
Noah’s eyes widened. “You are?”
“Yes. These last months I’ve been thinking a lot about all the time I spend on social media to maintain my brand. It used to be fun, but now it’s stressful and it’s stopping me from pursuing other dreams. I think a detox might be healthy for me.”
Noah rubbed my arms with a proud expression. “You know I’ll support you in anything you do.”
“Good, because I’m tired of modeling and shooting fashion videos. I’m thinking about using my degree in art. Maybe have a gallery and work as a consultant.”
“I’ll hire you.” Noah said and placed a kiss on my neck.
“I’m expensive.” I winked.
“I wouldn’t expect anything else.”
“For you, though, I’ll let you pay for my expertise with sex.”
Noah looked deep into my eyes. “How many times of lovemaking equals one painting?”
“Depends on the quality of the lovemaking.” I took his hand and pulled him with me.
“Where are we going?” he asked.
“To our suite.”
“You wanna leave the party now?”
“No. We’ll come back in a minute. There’s just something I want to show you.”
Once inside the gorgeous bridal suite, I pointed to the bed where a large present lay wrapped.
“What is that?” Noah walked closer. “Did you buy me a TV?”
“Open it.”
Curiosity and amusement danced in his eyes as he began tearing off the paper.
