I nod and take a sip of my coffee. “He … has feelings for you.”

Her face contorts into sadness. “I know.” She sighs. “If I had met him before Ruin, maybe. But Ruin kind of blew into my life and nothing has been the same.”

Like Tanner.

I shiver.

“Well, if it is any consolation, he is as amazing as you expect an Asmodean to be,” I mutter. “Very … sinful.”

She smirks. “Somehow that does not surprise me. At all.”

We both laugh. The sun rises higher in the trees, turning the world a pretty shade of soft blue and gold.

“Eventually I guess I need to go to work,” I say, watching the sky lighten. “If I haven’t lost my job.”

Lilah frowns. “You called in, right?”

I nod. “Yeah, the morning after my attack. But that was a few days ago. I should probably consider making an appearance before they think I died.” I expect her to laugh too, but instead she seems to pale.

“Nisha … What day do you think it is?”

“What?” I ask. “It’s Friday.”

She stares at me. “Nisha … It’s Monday.”

My heart gives a deafening slam into my rib cage. “What?” My voice comes out high.

She reaches for me. “You three were in the cabin for almost four days.”

I pull back and stand. “Lilah, that’s not funny.”

She climbs to her feet and walks around the table, her hands raised. “I swear to you, Nisha. You guys have been in the cabin for days. You don’t remember?”

“I remember everything. Both of them …” I trail off as the memories seem to blossom, growing longer and more detailed as all the times they took me seems to quadruple. Too many times between them both to have been a day.

My body stiffens and I shiver. “I don’t … How did I lose nearly four days?”

Lilah grips my shoulders in her small hands. “Easy, okay? I know between your heat and Caine’s magick, there are bound to be gaps. But we’ll fill them in. Just stay calm.”

I stare at her. “Lilah … It was days. How the fuck am I supposed to explain that to my captain?”

She bites her lip, but doesn’t answer.

I pull from her grasp. “I need to go.”

“Nisha—”

I hold my hand up and back away toward my jeep. “I need to let everyone know I’m okay. Just … I need to go.”

I turn and dive for the driver’s side door. Clamoring into the vehicle, I lock the Jeep and start the engine.

Lilah pats my window, her blue eyes wide and pleading. “At least wait until Tanner—”

I throw the car into gear and stomp on the gas. She jumps back as I rocket forward, kicking up gravel in the drive before speeding out onto the road.

I was in bed with a demon and an alpha shifter for almost four fucking days?

How? How is that possible?
