We stare at each other as the trees sway around us, bringing a breeze that pulls at her thick hair.

I stare at the side of her face as her heartbeat pounds in my ears.
“I want you inside of me every fucking minute. I want your fucking scent in me. On me.” She shivers and her eyes close. “It scares the hell out of me but it’s the most erotic fucking thing I have ever heard.”
My hold loosens and my thumb scrubs over the smooth skin of her jaw. “Why does it scare you?”

I let go of her face and turn her in my arms. “What are you talking about?”
Her gold eyes glint and she looks away. “There is nothing to keep you here after I change. So yeah, the sex is fucking amazing and I fucking want you more than I want to breathe right now, but when I shift … You’ll leave.”
I stare down at her. “Do you think I’m going to fucking mark you and walk away?”
She bites her lip. “Aren’t you?” My jaw goes slack. “Daisy said that’s what you do. You break hearts and leave a broken string of women in your path, Tanner. What am I supposed to be? Just another one on the list?”
My hands grip her face, forcing her to look at me as I growl. “I have never marked a single fucking woman in my life, do you hear me?” Her irises pulse and her scent laces with confusion. “I sleep around because I’m a fucking shifter and I need sex like a vamp needs blood.
