One pale hand scrubs the back of his neck. “I want to look at where they were holding you all.”
I fight down the unease. The knee-jerk reaction of wanting Gage near. “Okay. Be safe.”
His smile is brief, and I realize the man I thought him to be, is as far from the truth as what Bran believes Gage to be. With a brief kiss to Lilah, he stalks past to where Gage and Tanner wait.
I stare at Gage, hoping he will turn. That he will look at me.
He doesn’t.
Nisha wraps her arm around my shoulders and urges me closer to the vehicles. “Come on, honey, you look like you could use a stiff drink.”
More grateful than I can voice, I allow her and Lilah to lead me away.
