Where Amoret is rapidly becoming concerned, I can’t trust my flames around her. Can’t trust myself.
She is breaking through every boundary, every hard rule, I have ever set for myself. The ones I have had to use for years to keep those around me safe. To keep them from …
“Whoever did it knows the Fae are here. Knows she is here,” I say into the quiet, and every pair of eyes turns to me. I lift my gaze and climb to my feet. Amoret burrows deeper into me, and a small flicker of surprise colors the other Fae’s expressions. My teeth grind. “We’re leaving. Now. No negotiations.”
Silence, then—
“Well, grab your stuff,” Horan snaps. “Captain has given his orders. Move.”
The Fae jolt and rush around. I ignore them and carry Amoret to the doors.
The sooner I can get her to the manor, the safer she will be.
Even from me.
