T shrugs and pushes away from the brick. “Said you were having a time with the Fae female.”
“Amoret,” I correct.
His smile is all cat. “So it is true. Gage fucking Whitehorn has the hots for the innocent fairy princess.”
I snarl.
He stalks around me, his long legs propelling him with shifter grace. “You going to take my head off, G?” he asks, voice the low rumble of his beast. “Is that what you need? A fight or a fuck?”
I don’t turn to keep him in my line of sight. There is no need. I can feel him. His energy is nearly as warm as Caine’s. But different. Musky.
“You offering?”
He laughs, but the sound is tight. Edged. “You’re not really my type, but I can help with the bloodier option.” One strong palm shoves at my shoulder.
I stumble and drop into a crouch.
His silver eyes dance. “I know you get a power charge from being outside.”
My teeth flash. “Then go beast.”
Another smile, this one feral. “Figured I would just tag team your punk ass.”
A hard male body crashes into mine, knocking me out of my crouch. We roll over the grass and I flip the male form off of me.
Ruin catches himself on one fist before coming up into position like a championship runner at the starting line. He smiles. Twin fangs press into his lip. “Get up.”
I roll to my feet.
Tanner flexes his hands and his claws glint in the sun. “Come on, Fire Fae. Power up.”
The nickname is a jab. A reminder of the demon and how he had to protect Amoret from the smoke my fire caused.
A tick fills my cheek.
“Power up, Gage,” Ruin taunts.
My lips peel back in a low snarl. “You want to fight?” I mutter, the rage and lust swirling and building inside me. “Fine.”
I slide my feet apart, lowering my center of gravity as I open my senses to every living thing around me. The first tendril of fire dances down my spine.
“But just remember,” I call to both of them, “you asked for this.”
For the first time in years, I let the hold on my rage go. I don’t push it down, or blanket it in Black Dream. I coax it closer with every failure that has darkened my life.
Amoret. Her tears.
Lilah.
Walking from the Sith.
The fire that destroyed the last of my innocence.
An emerald inferno bursts out from me in a shock wave, and then there is nothing but the fire and the rage.
