“So Amoret was right,” Onyx says, groaning. “Damn.”
“Our colony head is trying to get it appealed, but if he can’t we have to leave.”
She looks at me, her tan skin paling. “When?”
“By noon.”
Her inhale is sharp and her eyes darken. “Caine.”
I grip her face in my hands. “We’re not leaving,” I assure her. “Not without those fucking cases.”
She closes her small fingers over my wrists, holding tight to me. “We don’t even know where they are. And now they are making you leave.” Her breath catches.
“I won’t go,” I say fast. “I’ll stay and we will find them.”
“But—”
I pull her to me and press my lips to hers. She arches up, her lean frame quaking with emotion. “I won’t leave without you, Onyx. I won’t,” I murmur. “I just found you. I can’t walk away now.”
She inhales and kisses me again, the motion almost desperate. “They are your team, Caine. They need you too.”
“But I need you,” I retort. She starts to shake her head and I hold her tighter. “I need you, Onyx. I need you.”
Heat flares inside me.
It doesn’t matter that I took her less than an hour ago. It doesn’t matter than my demon heritage is sated and calm.
I need Onyx with a hunger that is all me. All us.
When I start walking her back to the bed, her hands scramble over my arms, my chest. I grip the hem of my shirt and pull it over her head before sealing my mouth to hers once more. She forces my jeans down and I step out of them. Her shorts follow.
At the bed, I ease her down onto the bare mattress.
Ruin admitted to not wanting to take Lilah in my bed. That it seemed cruel somehow. But I couldn't care less as Onyx pulls back long enough to lay on the midnight sheet. She is resplendent on the silk, her hair nearly the same impenetrable darkness. But her eyes are glowing ember that a man could lose himself in.
That I need to lose myself in.
I follow her down, tasting her lips, her throat. Every soft moan is just us. Every touch of my hands. Hers.
There is no press of magick, no crimson light except what guards the door.
And I marvel in being alone in my skin. Of being with Onyx only as a man.
She arches as I slip my fingers along her slick folds. Her body is hot and tight. My cradle. My chalice.
My goddess.
I ease into her sheath as my lips slant over hers, deepening the kiss. Needing to be as close to her as I can get.
She holds me tight, her legs wrapped around my hips, her body rocking to keep mine in hers as her hands stoke the fire inside me. The warmth.
I kiss her forehead. Her temple. I inhale the scent of her skin. The sweetness as it mixes with my spice. And I slide my arm under her back, cradling her to me as her body quickens, as her release takes her up and shatters her all to the sound of my name in her beautiful voice. And only then do I follow her over the edge.
But I know I was right in what I told the others.
I have no intention of ever letting her go.
