Caine laughs, and I’m not the only one that shivers. Tanner eyes him warily and I remember him saying he has noticed Caine before. And when Caine’s eyes pulse, I know he is noticing him now. “I believe I am more than capable of pleasing the fairest, but there are some things that I wanted to air first.”

T inclines his head and starts back out the door. “Honesty is key,” he murmurs.

Caine closes the panel and leans against it. With an easy push from his body, he stalks toward me and the light flares back into place. “I have taken women and men, Onyx. I have sated every hunger I have.” He watches me as he prowls closer. “Even with the cat and his kitten, I took them both. I fed and sated them over and over for days in that cabin when Nisha’s first heat broke. I have been with many.”

As he nears, I unwittingly scoot back.

He stops and watches me. “But I have never hesitated with anyone but you.”

My lips part.

“I have never felt such jealousy as with you.” He wags his head. “Granted, I despise Ruin for having Lilah, but even that I have come to terms with. She is happy. And if she is happy, that is what matters.”

“But you …” he breathes. “I wanted to kill Ruin for his remarks over the damn com system yesterday. And the vampire at the gala …” His arms cord and his hands ball into fists. “I would have made him my puppet, Onyx. Merely to prove how powerless he was. How weak compared to me.”

His eyes meet mine. “And that is dangerous for a demon.”

“So what are you saying?”

He closes the distance and tugs the blanket away from my body, baring me to his gaze. And does he ever look.

The slow perusal of his gaze is hot. Naughty.

“I am saying, Onyx,” he croons, “that I don’t know if you are meant to be mine for forever. But I don’t want to risk not knowing. I won’t let you walk away because of a love for someone that will never feel the same.”

He lifts his gaze and the stark honesty there throws me into a tailspin. “I want you, Onyx. I want to taste you. Take you.” He trembles. “I want to do so many wicked, wicked things to that beautiful body of yours.”

Warmth blazes in my stomach.

“But I won’t if you do not want to.” His smile is sinful. “Demon or not, I am a stickler for consent.”

My mind whirs and I can only stare up at him.

Everything in me is tight. Coiled.

He can chase away every worry with his body. His kiss. His touch.

But it is such a large risk. Not to my body. But my heart.

Caine can obliterate every male who has come before him. I know it. And giving myself to him has to be whole-hearted. He won’t give me any less, and I can’t either.

The only question that remains is if the chance is worth it?

Chapter 29

Onyx

I climb to my feet and step toward him. He watches my approach and I can see the first wall go up in his beautiful gaze. The surety that I am going to turn away from him. To brush him off.

Hands shaking, I reach for the button on his jeans.

His inhale is sharp and the sound is almost nervous. Excited.

But there is no way someone as experienced as Caine can be nervous.

I slip the button out and glide his zipper down. My eyes drop of their own accord, marveling once more at the dark tattoos covering his hips and pubic bone.

Gripping his waistband, I push his jeans down. They fall to his feet and he steps free, his length long and proud from his lean hips. My mouth goes dry and a wash of heat pools between my thighs.
