Crimson flares from my body and my hand finds the smooth skin of her throat. My fingers press into her tan flesh. Heat fills her eyes. “He kisses you to seal the deal?” I snarl.
“Caine—” Lilah’s voice is all surprise before Ruin shushes her.
Onyx stares up at me, her head tight to my shoulder. “Yes,” she admits. When she swallows, I feel the movement under my palm. Along with the flutter of her pulse. “Why does it matter?”
“Because you tried to feed from me,” I say, gazing at her.
“But …” she trails off, her eyes darting with uncertainty. “I’ve never fed before.”
“Do you feel energized after sex?” I ask. “More awake?”
Her amber eyes widen.
My fingers convulse over her throat and she makes a sound. It is not one of pain. “You are Asmodean enough to feed. But not enough to use our magick or raise Sin.” I lean my head down and breathe in. “But I can feed you.”
Heat spills from her body. “But the last time I collapsed.”
My smile is all teeth. “This time I will not put your body through so much.” Her pretty tan face turns russet. “And the others have offered to feed us both.”
Onyx stops breathing. “I don’t—”
“Caine can feed from a distance,” Nisha says fast, making us look at her. “We can raise the energy and he can take it from another room. You know … if that helps.”
Tanner’s eyes glitter as he smiles. “I am comfortable being in the same room.” Nisha’s back arches and his smile broadens.
“I am not,” Gage says mildly. “But if Amoret would like to watch …”
She lets out a small sound. “No. No, thank you.” Her voice is almost skittish. “I don’t know … I would rather not try that yet.”
Ruin is silent. “I will leave that up to Lilah and Onyx.”
I look at him in surprise.
He shrugs. “We’re all curious, Caine. Don’t make it into something it’s not.”
“Then I will keep watch,” Horan rumbles. “And Gage and Amoret may use my room for privacy.”
Onyx starts to protest.
He peers at her. “I do not mind guarding you all,” he says to her. “And if I thought you would not burn, either you or Caine, I would add my energy to yours. But I would not harm either of you willingly.”
My jaw drops.
His shrug is tight. “I told you, Caine. Sex is not a sin.” With that, he turns on his heel, snares his sword, and walks out into the hall, closing the door behind him.
Chapter 35
Onyx
Silence permeates the room and I try to ignore the new tension. The new charge.
This shit is really going to happen.
I want to run. To hide.
But Caine’s hold on my neck is like five points of heat. And I want to feel another, hotter point inside me. He nuzzles the side of my face and I arch into him without thinking.
There is a soft gasp from across the room.
