Which she does, embarrassingly so.

“Elara!”I hiss, embarrassed, as she attacks him like she is a pup and not a full-grown wolf.

“Leave her, she is only playing, she can’t hurt him,” Dion mind-links me.

“He’s bleeding,” I exclaim.

“She isn’t used to her teeth yet.She isn’t hurting him, he is letting her, calm down. It’s what wolves do,” Dion tells me.I calm slightly, knowing Deacon isn’t about to maul her back, her entire head could fit in his mouth.

“Not quite, he could take a good chunk out of her,” Dion chuckles.

“Stop listening to my thoughts!”

“I like your thoughts, you embarrass so easily,” he laughs, but then Deacon backs up and he shifts.Elara mauls Dion, jumping on him the moment he shifts, nipping and licking at hisface. He grabs handfuls of fur, raking his fingers through it until she starts rubbing her body along him like she is a cat.All while I die from embarrassment and Dion laughs at her.

“Shift back for me, Elara,” Dion murmurs, stroking my fur.She hesitates, then jumps up and licks his face playfully.Dion laughs and grabs handfuls of my fur gently.“You can play with Deacon later, but I want Emery back now.”

She huffs, but she obliges, shifting back into my human form. The sudden change leaves me disoriented as I suddenly find myself upside down because she rolled on her back mid-shift in his lap.I shriek, knowing he has a bird’s-eye view of me, and scramble off Dion’s lap, cheeks flushed. But he’s faster, his arms wrapping around my waist and pulling me down onto his chest.

“Stop trying to escape me,” he says softly, a mix of command and tender warmth.“Besides, I’ve had you in my mouth, seeing your vagina doesn’t bother me,” he laughs while my face flushes hot.

“Any redder and you may change colors permanently,” he mocks, brushing my heated cheek with his hand.He lays down, pulling me with him, and I rest my chin on his chest.

We listen to the river, when Dion suddenly breaks the silence, peering down at me slightly with his arm resting beneath his head.

“I want to take you somewhere tomorrow,” he says, his eyes searching mine.

“Where?”I ask, curiosity piqued.

“Another surprise. But first, I need to talk to you about something.”Dion inhales deeply.“I’m immortal, Emery.I’m a Hybrid.”

“I know,” I reply, locking eyes with him.“And I don’t care that you drink blood or drink from me.”

Dion laughs.“That’s because you secretly like that I do.”

I roll my eyes at him.

“Can’t keep secrets from me now,” he chuckles, but then sighs, brushing my hair back that has blown in my face.

“You are a werewolf, Emery,” he gently reminds me.“You’re not immortal.”

I frown, confused.“I know all this,” I remind him.“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I want to change you,” he confesses, his voice low and intense.“But only if you want it.I won’t force your hand.We have time, and I’m not sure if female Hybrids can have children.I want babies first, Emery.”

“What do you mean, your mother had you?”I remind him.

“But I don’t think she was a vampire or Hybrid. Our bodies don’t change once we hit what I consider Hybrid adulthood.I haven’t aged since I hit thirty-two,” he tells me.I think his words over for a second, wondering what changing me entails when another thought occurs to me.

“How many children?”I ask, emotions swirling inside me.

“As many as you want to give me,” he says, longing in his voice.“I’ve always wanted a family.”The way he says it and the feeling through the bond sounds and feels sad.

“Then why are you upset,” I ask him.“Can’t hide from me now, Alpha,” I mock back, and he smiles.

“I’m not sad…” He goes quiet for a second, seeming to think.“But I’ve always loved watching people, especially when I was younger.I loved seeing how happy families were.Every so often I would follow them home, watching from a distance, pretending I had my own family.”

My heart aches for him, seeing the sadness in his eyes.“Why didn’t you join a pack?”
