It’s then that I stumble upon a clearing.Shit, where the heck am I?I sniff the air, realizing I have wandered slightly off track, a seemingly endless expanse of green stretching out before me.The trees give way to open sky, their branches no longer providing shelter from the world outside as I gaze out at the expanse of the forest standing on the slope.

My heart clenches in my chest, and I realize there is no end to this forest – I am truly in the middle of nowhere.I glance out over the huge hill, but all I see are the trees stretching endlessly. No roads or if there are, they’re effectively covered by the canopying trees.

“Is this what you wanted, Dion?”I cry out, my voice betraying the turmoil within me.“To keep me trapped here, far from everything I’ve ever known?”I snarl out angrily, speaking to the trees since they’re the only thing out here besides me.

I collapse to my knees, feeling the grass beneath me as tears prick at the corners of my eyes. How am I to find my way back to Grandma’s when I can’t even see a road?Overwhelmed by the weight of my emotions, I bury my face in my hands and let the sobs wrack my body.I just want to go home. But I now have no home to go back to; only the ashes of my childhood remain after he made me burn it.After a brief moment, I compose myself.

With a deep breath, I push myself up from the ground, readying myself for whatever punishment awaits me when I return.

I try to focus on finding a way to escape this seemingly endless forest. The idea of getting a hold of the keys to one of the vehicles crosses my mind. But I know Dion would never let me get away so easily, and I also don’t know how to drive, so there goes that option.

After trudging my way back through the woods, I approach the edge of the tree line back to the pack.I notice pack members gathered, their faces etched with concern. They’ve clearly been worried about me, and I can’t help but feel a pang of guilt for the fear I’ve undoubtedly caused them or maybe the trouble they’llbe in for losing me.

“Emery,” Tara says as she spots me, relief flooding her face.“Thank God you’re okay.”

“Of course I am,” I reply, trying to muster a smile.“I just went for a walk.”I shrug when I see one of my guards pointing at me.

My words seem to offer some reassurance to Tara, and I can see the tension in her shoulders easing ever so slightly.

Just as I begin moving toward her, my gaze lands on Dion, standing tall among the chaos as he stalks out of the pack house with an angry look on his face.My heart races as I move toward him, knowing he’s looking for me.

“Emery!”Dion snarls, grabbing my arm roughly. His grip is like iron, and I cry out as he flings me onto the ground.“Where were you going?Half the pack has been looking for you!”

“I just wanted some space,” I protest, trying to pick myself up off the ground.“I wasn’t trying to escape.”Though that is kind of a lie.I was attempting to figure out where I am exactly, because my little escapade didn’t offer many answers.

“Ha!”Dion scoffs, his icy red eyes narrowing dangerously.“You’re to remain where I say at all times. It isn’t safe out there.”

“Safe?”I laugh bitterly, brushing dirt from my clothes.“The only thing I’m afraid of is you, not whatever lurks in the forest.”

“Excuse me?”he growls.I roll my eyes, heading toward Tara hoping to escape him, but of course not, why would anything go my way?

Dion meets my challenge head-on, as he stalks toward me, making me stop as I wonder what he’s doing. My eyes roam over his muscular frame.

“You think you can survive against a rogue, Omega?”he growls.

“I am not an Omega,” I snarl back, defiance burning in my chest.

“Really?”Dion taunts.

“Sit!”At his command, my legs give out from under me,and I collapse into a sitting position. The guards laugh, but Tara regards me with pity.

“Still think you’re not an Omega?”Dion asks, with a cruel smile.I glare up at him, furious at the humiliation.

“Come to me,” he orders, pointing at his feet.My body trembles violently as I try to fight his command. It is futile because my body betrays me, moving to obey when he makes another command.“Crawl!”

What?I grit my teeth refusing.“I said crawl!”Dion orders, shoving the full weight of his command over me and making me whimper.

Tears burn my eyes as I unwillingly oblige, crawling on all fours through the dirt. When I reach his feet, Dion stares down at me, his voice dripping with disdain.

“You definitely aren’t an Alpha, Emery.”

I glare up at him defiantly, my heart pounding in my chest.“But you’re still a man,” I say before swinging my fist into his groin.Dion clutches his manhood, gasping in pain, and I jump to my feet, delivering a punch to his face.Silence falls across the training grounds, and out of my peripheral vision, I see Tara gasp and her hands clutch her mouth.Only then does it click what I just did.Dion makes a strange ticking noise in the back of his throat, and I stagger a step back from him.

I glance around nervously toward Tara, but she shakes her head, urging me to remain where I am and not tick him off further while most run inside.Seeing that makes me nervous, and I take a step, fight or flight kicking in.However, the moment I do, I find myself on my back in the dirt with Dion hovering over me.

“Silly move, little mate,” he purrs, his hand gripping my throat.Well, I’ve come this far, and if I’m already being punished, it better be worth it.Lifting my head, I headbutt him only to nearly knock myself out.Despite not landing the desired effect, I do see his head snap back.

I clutch my headband hear a loud growl, my eyes widen when I realize it was coming from Dion.He steps back, allowingme to stand up again, breathing heavily and trembling with adrenaline. His eyes are blazing yellow as he peers around.
