“I thought you were coming back to bed?”he mutters, moving to the toilet to pee.I turn away from him.
“Shouldn’t we check on the rogue women?”I ask him, ignoring his question.
“No, that is why I have a Beta and Gammas for.If I wanted to play babysitter, I’d have stayed down there.Besides, they’re mostly familiar with my pack, a few I’ve seen before,” he tells me when I hear the shower screen open.
“So you’re not worried about them at all?”I ask as he steps in.
“No, why would I be?I doubt they would try anything while they have a child on their hip; not only that, they have nowhere else to go.They know they’re safe here.”I nod slowly, trying to understand how he can trust them blindly.Though he did explain, I just find it odd he would take their word for it after what happened to his pack with rogues.
Not only that, I also find it hard to believe my father had anything to do with it given we are hours away. Why would my father randomly send rogues to attack him?
We spend the rest of the shower in silence, his presence behind me is like a heavy weight. When I move to get out, his hand stops me.
“You don’t try to leave this room without me.”he warns, and I glare at him.
“And go where?”I ask and his eyes narrow slightly but hemoves his arm that is blocking me.I grab a towel and start drying myself as I leave the bathroom. The moment I am out of sight, I move to my jewelry box and quickly unlock it.However, just as I close it, I hear the water shut off.I stare at the pill in my hand before peering around for water.Shit!
“I’ll take you shopping today to get clothes before the council warns all packs of our dispute,” he sings out while I try to remember which wall panel hides the fridge.Hearing footsteps, I have no choice but to try to swallow the pill without a drink.I pop it in my mouth and swallow.Only it doesn’t go down quickly, and I fight back gagging on it, coughing.I cover my mouth before using my saliva to swallow again, only now that the pill is dissolving in my throat it’s also burning.
Tears prick at the corners of my eyes when suddenly a hand touches the wall two panels down.He motions to the fridge, and I rush over snatching a coke out.“I will find you some clothes.”he tells me, and I open the can, sculling half of it.Sighing, my throat burns more, but at least it doesn’t feel like a hot poker jammed in my throat.“Are you okay?”he asks just as I cover my mouth to cough.
“Yes, I bit my tongue,” I tell him.Although that is a lie, now I’ve swallowed the cool liquid. The burn returns the fizziness of it not helping.Moving toward the huge walk-in closet, he watches me as I try to find something to wear.I manage to find the dress he first gave me hanging in the back.I pull a face and reach for it when his hand snatches mine.
My gaze snaps to him, wondering what is wrong with him, but his eyes are on my hand, glancing down I find blood splatter. My eyes widen, and I swallow the copper taste of it on my tongue.A second later, Dion grabs my face.
“What are you doing?”I try to demand, but he pries my mouth open
“What did you take?”he growls at me.
“What are you talking about?”I clamp my mouth shut but his grip hurts.“Stop it, you’re hurting me.”
He growls at me.“Open your mouth!”he orders, and Ichoke on the command, but unable to resist him, I do as I’m told.
“Lift your tongue,” he snarls.I glare at him when he leans in, smelling my breath. This is so embarrassing, luckily for him, I’ve brushed my teeth, although I wouldn’t have minded giving him a dose of morning breath with this violation.
He growls and reluctantly lets me go, eyeing me suspiciously.“See, are you fucking happy now?”I snarl at him. After a second, he stalks out of the room.Snatching the dress off the hanger, I pull it on but can’t find any underwear. So instead I steal a pair of his boxer shorts then use my hair tie to hold them up.
Stepping out of the room, though, I find Dion, searching the room while still only wearing a towel wrapped around his hips.He lifts the mattress on my side, even feels inside my pillowcase.“What are you doing?”I ask him, trying to play dumb.My heart skips a beat when he doesn’t answer, instead moving toward my jewelry box.My hand instinctively goes to my necklace around my neck.
“Don’t break that,” I panic, he peers over his shoulder at me.Then opens it, he rummages around in it, shakes it, even dumps the contents on the bed.Thankfully, he doesn’t pull the lining back to reveal the false bottom and the tiny keyhole. He tosses the box on the bed, instead rummaging through drawers beside it.I rush to my jewelry box to check on it.Grabbing it, my hands shake a little as I fix the few cheap pieces of jewelry back in it.
Dion says nothing as he searches the rest of the room, and I remain on the bed, watching him. When he has deemed me not hiding anything, he stops in the center of the room.
“Are you done?”I ask him.
“I can smell something on your breath,” he states.
I play innocent.“Excuse me?”
“Not just your blood, but something…” his brows furrow as if he is trying to remember what it was he could smell.Belladonna is hard to find here. Also banned in wolf packs, although I do know it’s what rogues sometimes use as birthcontrol, and to stop their heats. But still, it’s almost impossible to get your hands on.
Dion rubs his temples.“I’m fucking losing it,” he whispers under his breath, then runs his fingers through his hair while muttering under his breath.A few moments later, he returns, and I get up, relieved we are finally leaving the room.
Dion leads me downstairs.I move to go to the dining hall when he grabs my hand, steering me toward the foyer door.“Ah, breakfast?”I ask him, knowing he usually eats all meals with his pack.
“We can grab something on the way.”He leads me outside, and I spot Kyrio waiting in a black truck.
“Alpha,” Kyrio acknowledges.Dion nods to him before opening the door.I groan but climb in despite not wanting to be in the back with him.
