I drive slowly, trying to get a feel for the vehicle. It’s not too different from Mario Cart, kind of, not really at all.The road leading to the gate is long and winding, but I keep my foot on the gas, determined to make it out to warn my pack.

As I approach the gate, I can see Dion’s guards standing outside, fully alert. They wave for me to pull over, and my heart rate picks up when one of them looks through the windshield and shouts to the other. The next second, they run toward the car, and I panic.I slam on the gas, and the car lurches toward the closed gates. The creak of metal is loud, and I am thrown forward in my seat, the airbag goes off, then deflates, and I feel my head snap back at the impact.

Shouts ring out loudly, and someone opens my door.Grabbing the gear stick, I slam it back in reverse, and he is knocked down when the door hits him.I see another jump out of the way.

Fuck!Looking at the gate, I see it is bent and pushed outward, only just holding on.More shouts ring out, and I see people rushing toward us from the hill leading to the packhouse, so I shove the stick back in drive, and once again hit the gas.The car speeds forward and as I hit the gate, I close my eyes and grit my teeth, only instead of coming to a stop the car revs louder when the gates fly open.

I quickly grip the wheel harder, trying to steer along the dirt path,

Within moments, they are chasing me, and smoke is coming out from under the hood, making it difficult to see, I try to navigate the windy roads. My palms sweating as I desperately weave through the trees.Soon, I hear engines, and I glance back by the rearview mirror to see cars tearing toward me.

The sound of engines becomes louder still, until one is right at my bumper.I glance back to find it’s the guard who’s always stationed at my door.

Out of panic, I turn into an old logging road leading deep into the forest, but this doesn’t stop the man who follows closely behind, narrowly miss slamming right into the back of my vehicle several times!

The narrow tree line path makes visibility difficult as branches scrape against either side of the car’s frame.I glance back at him to see more tearing after me when he pulls a funny face and starts honking his horn.Turning back to look at the road, I am airborne, then thrown forward in my seat when the wheels touch the ground.

I hang onto the steering wheel, realizing I have driven off a small ledge when suddenly I tossed forward, only there is no airbag to break my fall.My head bounces off the windshield and the steering wheel winds me.The car comes to a stop against a tree.Dazed, I groan and push myself back, only to hear more shouts.

As I climb out, I notice the car is totaled, and I stumble almost blindly, blood trickling from my forehead as I try to get my footing when the next second I hear snarls.Peering around, Ican see the small town down the bottom, and I take off running.

And not straight I might add.I trip over my feet and tumble most of the way.Coming to another road, I hop over the guard rail, and I am about to climb the next when a feral snarl sends shivers up my spine.I turn to look back at who it is when I am tackled by a huge wolf.

My head bounces off the asphalt and my surroundings blur as I peer up at the man who grabbed me as he shifts back. The next second, feet stop next to my head, and I turn my head to see Tara. She shakes her head at me.

“Why?”is all she asks, but before I can answer, everything goes black.

Chapter 18

Half the day I spent in the nearby area going overblueprints with my men while waiting for the pilot to get to the airport. He was stuck in traffic after an accident happened on the highway. So once he arrives at the airport, we are already eager to leave and running behind.

I’m just about to board the small plane when I am alerted to Emery’s escape. With a growl, I signal for Kyrio who has stopped with a few of my other men, hearing the mind link open up as panic ensues back home.

“She stole Dimitri’s car,” Ben tells me, and my eyes dart to Dimitri.

“She what?”he demands through the link, but I hold up my hand, silencing him.

“And drove it through the fence,” Ben adds.I curse while Dimitri looks like he is about to faint, that car was his pride and joy.Great, something I have to replace.

“I am on my way, don’t let her out of your sight.”

“On it,” Ben replies, and I jump back in my car to see Kyrio running toward me.I wait, knowing he’ll follow either way.He jumps in the passenger side and I spin the car around, driving out of the small airport.

“What about us, boss?”Dimitri asks as I reach the road.“If I am not back in an hour go ahead, I’ll catch up; we’ll be on the next plane,” I tell him before hearing his grouchy “Yes Alpha.”

When I drive through town, the place is a blur to me.It is gone in a blink of an eye, and the car is sliding up a rocky back road when Ben opens the mind link again to say she has driven off the side of a small cliff, and my heart nearly stops beating.

“Where?”I ask.

“Backside of the mountain,” he tells me, and at the crossroads I turn toward the opposite direction. How she managed to escape her room is beyond me but something she’ll definitely answer for. However, before I reach her, I am alerted to them catching her.I pull over debating what I should do, if I should head back to the airport or check on her.Either way, she’ll be punished for such an act.

Rubbing my temples, I feel a headache coming on.I have thirty minutes to be back at the small airport.“What are we doing?”Kyrio asks me and I grit my teeth, this is our opportunity to finish all this mess, but her escape has me on edge.

“Dion?”Kyrio asks and I open the mind link.“Is she hurt?”I ask Ben, but Tara eavesdropping answers.

“She is banged up, but she’ll be okay,” Tara answers.Stupid, stupid girl.If she was in front of me I would have shaken some sense into her.

“Put her in the dungeons until I return,” I tell Ben.I hear Tara about to protest, but I shut the mind link down, not wanting to hear it, at least there she’ll be secure.
