“There’s nothing to talk about with him. He tuned my car, ordered a part, and cleaned my pipes.”

“Was the last part free of charge?” Mel wiggled her eyebrows.

“I’m not so broke that I need to blow someone for repairs.”

“Brat.”

“Just a mirror of you.” Julia walked to her closet, beelining for a black lace bodysuit and red pleather skirt to complement her new hair.

“Oh, I see.” Melody crossed her arms and leaned against the dresser. “You had a good time, didn’t you?”

With more than twelve years of friendship, they both knew Julia’s silence spoke volumes. “It was fun, nothing more.” Fun didn’t cover it. Every moment with the over six-four man was damn near electric. She’d only replayedtheir encounter every night since with her hand between her thighs.

“But you’re hoping you see him tonight. You never want to go to the club play space, so I practically have to drag you to sit down there with the group. I know you like our friends!” Melody hastily pulled her natural red hair up in a messy ponytail, exposing her neck and shoulders in the halter top she had chosen. It showed off her new collar from Wes.

“You got into a good group.” Julia shrugged, pulling the skirt up and snapping the buttons in the back. “Heels?” She smoothed out the lace material over her breasts and hips. It showed off every curvy inch of her five-foot-seven frame.

“You’ll wear them there and then take them off before we hit the floor. Black flats.” Melody reached behind her and picked up her phone. “Well, it’s not the overprotective Daddy blowing up my phone.” She came over and grabbed Julia’s phone. “It’syourphone that’s having a seizure.”

“It’s my mom. She’s been wanting to know what the visiting plans are.” Julia huffed. Holiday obligations aside, the last place she wanted to be was with her parents. “I blew them off enough. She’ll get worse if I don’t just go and get it over with.”

“Oh, don’t I know it? I’m sure your aunt will be calling next.” Ever since her brother Devin’s death, the more she’s tried to pull away from the umbrella of her family, the harder they tried to tether her in.

She loved her aunt and scattered few relatives. It was her mother who made every visit painful.

“I know Aunt Elaine will call before lunchtime tomorrow.”

“Well, you already know we’re getting together at Lexi and Noah’s. She finally got the house the way she wanted it.”

Lexi was their boss turned friend. She was co-owner of Bits & Bites catering and events. Lexi handled the reservations and most decorations, while Mia created masterpieces in her newly renovated kitchen thanks to her husband-to-be, Nolan.

With the expansion of their business and family, the need for more hands came naturally.

When Mia had Penelope, their now two-year-old daughter, Melody became their nanny and then bookkeeper for Club Surrender.

Julia had felt like the tag-along for the longest time, but the close-knit group had accepted them with open arms.

“This week.”
