“No…” Julia responded, her voice trailing off.

“Oh,” Melody replied, understanding the depth beneath her friend’s simple answer.

“My whole life, I’ve felt as though hope is something that gets taken, snatched away, or deflated,” Julia explained, her voice tinged with the rawness of vulnerability.

“But now?” Mia prompted softly, sensing a shift in her demeanor.

“Now I’m supposed to be in charge of this tiny human,” she said, her hand resting protectively over her belly.

“There is such a thing as life after loss. It’s called living,” Mia reminded her. Her words were a balm to her wounded spirit.

“I didn’t think I’d get to this part,” she admitted, a glimmer of realization dawning in her eyes.

“What part?

“Excited for tomorrow,” she said, her voice filled with a newfound sense of anticipation and hope.
