If we take back Oak Fur, we will do so by walking into the front entrance.

Kaylee

It only takes two minutes for Lucas and I to reach the double doors that lead into the packhouse. Two wolves guard it, their lax attention captured by their cellphones as moaning sounds can be heard. It seems they’re watching porn while on duty.

It isn’t until we’re right beside the warriors that they notice us, and by then, Lucas and I had already sliced their throats open with our claws. Blood gushes from the wounds we left, but I feel no remorse. Lucas had already linked me, stating these were the two wolves that dragged him to his room the night he caught Marilyn fucking Ramos.

We quickly enter the packhouse, the doors creaking when they open, and I wince. In the dead of the night, this sound could be the one thing that gives us away. These words seem to be true as an omega on the other side stares at us with wide eyes. Sheopens her mouth to scream, but I lunge at her, quickly putting my blood-coated hand over her mouth.

“Don’t scream. Don’t link anyone,” I whisper, watching as a look of recognition flashes through her eyes. “Will you stay quiet if I remove my hand?”

Lucas stands guard as the omega nods her head.

I immediately remove my hand from her mouth and back away as tears form in the omega’s eyes. She looks between Lucas and me, hope radiating from her in waves.

“Are you and Lucas here to save us, Kaylee?” she asks, and I smile.

“Yes, Sarah. We are,” I answer. Sarah grins, her eyes shifting around the halls before she takes my hand in hers, not caring about the blood that lingers on her face.

“Can I link the girls I trust and tell them to make their way to the laundry room in the basement?” she asks, and I turn to Lucas. He nods, telling Sarah not to mention us. After she promises to keep her reasoning vague, we let Sarah go and watch as she runs towards the pack kitchen, where the entrance to the basement is located.

“Can we trust her?” Ash asks, and I smile.

“We can. She’s one of the omegas who taught me about edible plants in the forest.”

With Sarah gone, we quickly climb the stairs, telling Titus and Ash to follow mine and Lucas’ footsteps exactly. If you make onewrong step, these stairs creak, and I’m not about to give us away with the noise.

Reaching the second floor, two warriors stand on the landing, their hushed whispers reaching our ears.

“I haven’t heard from the wolves on patrol,” the skinnier of the two says, worry in his voice. I can tell by how his voice cracks that he’s still young, probably a warrior in training.

“We’re trying to reach them, but nothing is coming back through the link,” the taller one states with a low growl, running his fingers through his hair. “It’s like they vanished.”

I look at Lucas, who has a smug look in his eye, and I stop myself from laughing. We know what happened to those wolves—we’d drugged them. Unfortunately this also meant their absence would be noticed sooner or later.

“Alpha Ramos keeps asking if something is wrong, but I have no clue how to answer,” the skinnier one says with a slight whine, letting out a frustrated growl.

“You don’t, Riley. You’re only sixteen and in training. Leave keeping Ramos informed to me,” the taller wolf says.

My eyes widen with surprise at hearing Riley’s name. He was one of the pups I would watch a few years ago. He was an impatient pup, always getting bored or frustrated easily. Clearly, that hasn’t changed.

Giving a signal for Ash and Titus to hand us the guns and stay there, I creep forward with Lucas. As soon as we’re close enough,we drug the older wolf, leaving Riley to stare at us in shock and panic.

“If you do anything, Riles, I won’t make you cupcakes,” I threatened before Riley could shout. He shakes, his fear evident, and I giggle. Riley had always been easy to scare.

“Wa-wait...Miss Kaylee?” Riley asks with disbelief in his eyes. “What...what is going on?”

I smile, pulling my mask down so that Riley can see my face. Lucas watches on in surprise, moving to pull my mask up, but I slap his hand away and glare at my mate.

“A coup,” I answer, watching understanding wash over Riley’s face.

“You’re here to kill Ramos.” It’s a statement, not a question, and I nod.

“Then who the hell is this man beside you?” Riley asks, making me clasp my hand over my mouth to stifle the laughter threatening to give our position away.

“Goddess,” Lucas growls in frustration, turning to look at me with raised brows. “How come everyone instantly recognizes you but not me?” he asks.
