“By the west border,” he answers, his body shaking with pain.

Another wolf steps forward, telling me to let her take my place and help support this wolf. Others have rushed off to the west border while these two wolves carry their packmate inside the training grounds.

“Serina, take the royal wolves to the pack house,” Theta Aidan orders as he is about to rush off to the border where the rogues are.

“I am coming with you!” I state, leaving no room for refusal. “Hannah’s home is on the west side of the pack, which means my son is in danger.”

Theta Aidan pauses, his eyes searching my face. Reluctantly, he nods, and without another word, Mikos, Fabian, and I rush off with the theta, the four of us shifting into our wolves as we race toward the west borders. I send a silent prayer to the Goddess, begging that the Haven Trail wolves keep the rogues at the border and not allow a single one of them into the pack for my mate’s and my pup’s safety.

Glaring at the traffic ahead of me, I frown and wonder what in the Goddess caused such an accident that made Claira and me sit in traffic for a good twenty minutes after leaving the pack house and heading toward our company.

“Our luck sucks,” Claira mutters, taking out her phone and bringing up Google.

“Agreed,” I add, frowning and slowly inching the car forward as traffic moves.

“It says here a semi-truck was hit by a Hummer and tipped over. Looks like we will be stuck here for a while unless we take the next left turn,” she announces, making me sigh with relief. The next turn is just a few feet away, and it looks like as soon as the light ahead turns green, we will be able to make the turn and take an alternative route to the company.

Alpha Hannah!A sudden shout into the pack link makes me wince and slam on my brakes, nearly causing the car behind me to crash into mine. Before I can snap at my packmate, the link hums again, and anxiety fills it.

Rogues have crossed the west border. We need you back here, the warning comes, and fear ripples through me.

The training grounds are on the west side of the pack, and so is my cottage. Saben could be at either location since he was set to train with Mavric today, and that means he is in danger.

“Claira,” I call out to my friend, quickly approaching the traffic lights and making a U-turn.

“I know. Floor it, Hannah,” she says, looking over her shoulder.

Without needing to be told twice, I race down the road, carefully dodging cars as I press on the gas. Cars honk in my wake, but I ignore them; the need to rush to my pup and pack is so strong that it takes everything in me not to push the car past its limits.

Thankfully, we weren’t too far from Haven Trail due to the accident, and in six minutes, I turn onto the road leading to the pack house, but I don’t stop there. As soon as I reach the fork in the road, I turn sharply to the west, driving on the narrow roads within the pack toward my cottage.

“Hannah, wolf!” Claira calls out just before I reach my driveway, forcing me to slam on my brakes once again. Sure enough, an injured wolf has limped onto the road, their scent indicating they are a rogue as well.

Putting my car in park, I jump out and storm toward the wolf, anger radiating from me. The wolf whimpers, curling in on itself and showing me its neck in surrender. It isn’t a threat.

“Shift!” I demand as Claira joins me, anger radiating from her as well.

The wolf complies, revealing a malnourished boy who can’t be older than sixteen. “Please,” he whimpers, curling into a ball on the ground. “Hunters are chasing us, and we need help.”

My anger turns to fear, and I order Claira to stay with this wolf before racing off toward the west border. I shift mid-step, my paws hitting the ground, and I veer off the road toward my cottage for a brief moment to check for Jiya and Saben to see if they are safe. After scenting around, panic settles in as my son and friend are not inside.

Aidan!I shout into the pack link so that everyone can hear. By now, I am moving toward the west border again, taking the shortcuts through the forest surrounding my land.

Dealing with rogues who attacked us!he calls back, making me growl in frustration.

Don’t kill them. Claira and I ran into one just outside my cottage. Hunters have sneaked onto our land!I order him, hearing my friend curse. Suddenly, the sound of a bullet rings through the air, and I dodge just in time for it to whiz over my head and embed itself into the tree.

Snarling, I race toward the scent of gunpowder, finding a hunter trying to reload his gun, failing due to my rushing at him. Before he can reach for any other weapon, I am upon him, rippinghis throat open with my claws. The iron tang of blood fills the air, and I snarl in disgust, linking to a warrior and telling them where to find the body of the hunter. I breathe in this hunter’s scent before it can fade, committing it to memory so that I can track down his allies before I continue racing toward the border where the attack happened.

Fuck, how many do you think are here?Serina calls into the link as others voice their concern.

Not sure, but I just killed one close to my cottage,I reply quickly.

One of the rogues we have in custody says there were five hunters,Claira chimes in, making me growl. Five enemies have entered my pack, and one is now dead.
