“She has her witch training every week with Carrisa and is protected inside the palace,” I continue, watching a flicker of worry pass through Saben’s eyes.
“I know, Mama, but I still feel unsettled leaving her. I don’t know how to put it,” he sighs, running a hand through his hair again.
“Well, you all know about her past and how she came to be part of the family,” I muse, trying to give Saben a logical answer as I am not ready to think about the possibility of my pups being mates, even if Savannah was adopted. “Maybe you’re protective of her because of that,” I continue.
Saben nods, his gaze glazing over as he becomes lost in thought. After a moment, he mutters about going to help pick a movie before leaving his room. Julian lets out a chuckle as he pulls me into his arms, his calming scent wrapping around me.
“I hope being away from Savannah for the next few months will help him in the end,” he says, burying his face in my hair.
“I doubt it,” I deadpan, leaning into Julian’s embrace. “We have instilled in them the importance of familial and mate bonds. If our suspicions are correct and Savannah is his mate, I fear he might reject her since we raised them as siblings,” I add, my heart already breaking at this notion.
“If he does, then we will need to smack some sense into him. Luckily for us, the day Savannah returns to the palace after graduating from the Academy will be after her eighteenth birthday. We will know if they are truly mates then and can deal with whatever happens in five years,” he reasons, and I groan.
Julian is right. We can’t speculate on the future based on a possibility. All we can do is focus on our pups now and be there for them when they need our support.
“Now, let’s go join our children for a movie night before they start fighting over who sits where.” Julian chuckles, releasing me and standing from the bed as he makes his way to the door.
I shake my head and chase after him, already hearing Savannah and Maria arguing from down the hall.
